Merry Christmas all. I am trying to see examples of where people have located their canton 2-quart tanks when using an SBF in their MK4. I have seen it mounted on the front cross-member DS and near the PS and DS F-panels with a little fabrication. What has been the norm for the SBF crew? My initial call was to put it on the PS using part of the F-panel to mount it plus a small L-bracket, as there is enough clearance between it and the alternator. Still, I wanted to foresee any issues with mounting it like that (and do I go the front cross-member?)

anyway, any help will be appreciated
thanks
Michael

Here is where I put mine and it clears body. I used spacers to pull it away from the F panel.

That's great to see. I was thinking something similar and was wondering if there were going to be any clearance issues with the body/brackets/etc. in the future. Sounds like that won't be a concern and valid option!

I mounted mine to the DS front crossmember X. I couldn't get the tank mounts to line up with anything, and didn't want to drill the X for bolts. Used 3 adel clamps to mount a 1/8" aluminum plate to the X, then bolted the tank to the plate. Some small spacers helped clear the hardware. With the plate mount, I was able to mount it wherever I wanted, so dropped it down low out of the way.

I did similar to Boyd, but I fabricated simple mounts out of angle.

just a question - are you guys using sealed or vented caps? I know it's not a high-pressure area - but wondered if a vented cap would help with burping any air out of the system...

cap is a sealed cap. the overflow tank is open to the air via the top tube/nipple which allows overflowing coolant to puke out onto the road. when the car cools down, the fluid gets sucked back into the system through the lower tube connected to your radiator T piece neck. excess air gets burped into the overflow tank and replaced with coolant when the engine cools.
