definitely want to get some side pipe heat shields - too many snake bite pics that verify that they're appreciated!

It depends on what finish you want (chrome, ceramic coated, etc.), and whether you like the perforated look or solid or some other pattern. I like the perforated look, but wanted them in bare steel so I could have them ceramic coated in black to match my side pipes and headers, so I went with the CobraStuff shields in bare steel. Other than that, it seems to me that they're all pretty similar.

Picture is a daily driver 5 years old. No special maintenance on the shields.

x2 Drummer Mike. They look terrific and no snake bites.

Just got mine in the mail today from ********** - chrome and perforated. Their website only lists ceramic but they will do them in chrome for the same price - you just have to request it.

Drummer Mike’s polished side pipes. Love em!

I have the ********** chrome heat shields. They look good and clean easily. The only complaint is the mounting clamps and bolts. The bolts are spot welded to the clamp and all of mine have pulled out of the clamps in the 6 years they have been installed. I welded them back on more securely and haven’t had any more failures. Drummer Mike’s mounting system looks much more robust.

I also have **********'s shields. We are quite happy with them (so far).

If you're looking for a solid shield, Drummer Mike's are outstanding. If you want perforated, it looks like you have several options that will work.

has anyone tested the surface temp difference between the solid and perforated style?

I don't have any #s but the difference is huge. W/ Drummer Mike's, if you touch the shield you have time to pull your leg away. Not entirely unscathed but something that will heal in several days and not leave a scar.

Respectfully, I disagree with CraigS on this. My shields will not burn your leg. At full temp I have tested this by putting my calf directly on the shield and it was only warm, no serious heat at all.

My experience is the same as GTBradley’s. On my car Drummer Mike’s heat shields never get too hot to touch comfortably.

Can't add anything about the bare shields as I lined mine with Thermo-Tec before I put them on. All I can say is the car is driven on any day its above 40 & not raining. No bites.

The ********** shields will be hot to the touch (won’t be comfortable but no burns) in stop and go traffic and warm to the touch if you shut down immediately after a drive in the country. Airflow makes a big difference.

I have a set from SteelShields and can say that the quality is top notch. They are polished stainless, not chrome. One possible complaint is that they leave a section of the tail pipe exposed that could still lead to a snake bite.

Drummer Mike shields I had locally coated in matte black ceramic. Measures 85 degrees temp vs 370 at the collector junction.

Why didn't you set them further to the rear when you mounted them?

The front edge of the door is roughly in the middle of my shield so sliding them back poses no risk of snake bite

The clamps are about an inch from each end of the muffler, so can't really move them back much at all.

That's too bad can see how you need to be more careful. IIRC without going into a cold garage mine are just pass the white line to the door side.

I have found a big difference when driving around town and tracking the car. So I can believe CraigS when he says his might get warm enough to stay away from. Around town driving even for long periods of time, mine stay mostly cool. Long term spirited driving is different.
I also want to point out as Norm B did, the method of connecting the shields to the pipes is important for long term use. I had rewelded and/or replaced the clamps on mine several times. Tried making custom T-bolt clamping systems with marginal success. Even had to removed the shields a couple of times when at Road America, because the clamps failed. I finally just bit the bullet and welded coupling nuts on the pipes and now bolt directly to the pipes (my shields are perforated). At least by visual inspection of the clamping system for Drummer Mike's shields, they look much better than what I use to have with another vendors clamping system.
