View Full Version : Roadster: Fuel tank strap loops too small?

I'll need to deform the end loop on the tanks straps if I'm going to fit these fasteners through it. Has anyone else run into this?

Yep. Probably not best solution but big screw driver and mallet to make hole bigger did it for me.

Had same issue. Tapped a tapered punch through each end until bolt fit.

I used a tapper punch and hammer on one side opened a bit and then the other side until bolt slid though and it kept the hole round.

Those straps can take a bit of enlarging without any damage to the strap. I lowered the passenger mount outside of the trunk and opened and re-bent a new loop and then welded the strap edges together. I, too, had to open up the eye a bit to get the bolt through just like you need to do.

If you just tap the closed end of the loop with a hammer, it makes the teardrop shape more round.
