Headlight Mounting

I mounted my headlights last week and had no issues. A friend mounted his and mentioned his rings around the lights are loose. We got to discussing it and I put the rubber seal between the body and the bucket and he put his rubber seal between the bucket and the ring. The manual did not address this. Which is the proper way?

Your way is correct. Not sure how it could’ve possibly been done the other way.

It's pictured and described a couple times as being between the bucket and the body.

Turns out he had it correct but his rings are loose. Mine are nice and snug but mine are also powder coated which will add a little bit extra.
