View Full Version : Rear Bolt on Upper A-arm

So I feel like this is the ultimate noob question. But I can't seem to get anything onto the rearward nut (the one without the washer) for attaching the upper A-arms to the frame. None of my sockets fit as it is interferes with the frame. Am I missing something?

I was going to go and purchase a 3/4" combination wrench tomorrow to give it a try, but wanted to see if that is how everybody else is doing it (in case I should be purchasing something else).

Thanks!

Jam a large flat head screw driver in there between the nut and the upper mount plate to hold it stationary and drive the bolt in from the other side.

I was able to get a wrench on there perpendicular to the nut, which was enough to hold it while I tightened it from the other side.

Thanks, this worked. Driver side all set and torqued.

Unfortunately the damage had already been done on the passenger side. I tried wedging a piece of sheet metal between the nut and frame earlier today and it caused the bolt to gall like crazy (I'm guessing it was wedged a bit too tight) - Bolt and Nut are now destroyed.

Aaarrggg.

I took a spare socket and laid it on my belt sander to create a flat edge on the socket until it fit. Worked great!

well at least you didn't capture your ratchet like I did :)

Follow-up Question. Should I be good purchasing a new Grade 8 bolt with fine thread or is there more to this fastener than meets the eye? I was hoping to keep going and not having to go back to FFR to order a new one.

Any thoughts?
