I am looking to buy and build a roadster with my son. I have seen a few posts but not many on cabin size. We are both 6'-3" and larger frame (240-255lbs).
My question is will we fit in the roadster together? Concerned about leg room and shoulder room. I dont know of a roadster near me or we could go there and just check it out. Our second thought is to build the 33 coupe if it is larger inside. Any thought and facts would be helpful before we plunge. We live in central CA, Ripon, an hour south of Sacramento.

33 Gen-2 is a larger cockpit. But you both could fit in a roadster. Both are tight in the foot-box area. 33 with Automatic gives more room there. Best if you can find one of each for you both to sit in prior to purchase, IMO.

I'm 6' / 190lbs, and I bolted the seats about 2" off the back rear wall. The footbox is narrow for my size 13 feet. (there are ways of widening it. I didn't do them)
I also have the high back racing seats: I love them, but they would be tight if I gained much weight / width. You should definitely see if you can sit in a car to try it out.
Good luck!

6'2" here and weigh a bit less than the OP. I used the Kirkey low back seats which keeps me lower and farther back than the standard seats. These cars are low and small, so you will be "snug" but it can be done - bigger and taller than you have made it work. Part of the fun of a build is doing mods to make it just right for you.
There are lots of cars in CA, so hopefully someone near you can show you their car.

I had the same question.I wanted to build the Facory five, I was able to sit in several different manufacture type and found that the only one that was comfortable in was a Backdraft BT4. They have lowered the foot box to allow a little more room.Their seats are on sliders and while it was still easy to enter and exit having the seat mounted on the floor would be better.I'm not as big as some of you guys but to me it wasnt woth the time and money to build something I wouldn't enjoy driving because it wasn't comfortable. My son who will also drive the car is 6'4 and wears size 15 shoes will also be driving the car so that was a consideration. I ended up ordering a Backdraft.

Yes, you will fit in the Mk IV with some simple modifications. I’m 6-6 230. Dave Hodgkins is 6-5, 250. He is one of the original big guys.
The Wilwood pedals are adjustable and you can gain several inches of leg room. You’ll want the Kirkey seats mounted to the floor, no slider. They get you several inches of head room and leg room. Raise the steering column 1/2”. Make these simple mods and you will be amazed at how much room there is.
If you are ever in Southern California, send me a DM and you can sit in mine. Once I sat in Dave’s I was sold.
Making the modifications to make this car fit me was the most fun in the build. All the mods are in my build thread.

Steve is being kind. I'm more like 320 with size 16 shoe.

I can drive mine for hours on end and, while snug, it is very comfortable. Bojets I too sat in a backdraft and mine for sure has more room.
GSpyksma, I'm down in Orange County. If you can get here you are welcome to try mine on for size. As Steve mentioned, it can make a huge difference to try one on for size and realize that you can be a big guy and drive these little cars comfortably. I really made a leap of faith with mine because I when tried to sit in over 20(!) roadsters on almost all I couldn't even close the door! Back in 2005 most of these roadsters were still being built with the mustang donor pedals. Mike Forte had the first Wilwood pedal kit and they made a world of difference! Back to my origin story, I could only work the pedals in ONE car. And I am forever grateful to DOUG WONDERLY for not only taking me for a ride but he also tossed me the keys!! I was sold, just like Steve. I've been a happy FFR owner for 14 years now!
:)
PS She's evolved over the years, and this is her current trim. Ain't she purty??

Here is some reading for you. I had some suggestions from Dave, Steve, and others when I started my build. I used many of them and it worked out for me.
