I have a MK III that has the incorporated hood scoop. The underneath side of the scoop is not smooth like the rest of the hood.

What does everyone smooth it out with?

My body guy is concerned about the under hood heat and wants to make sure he uses the correct product.

Rage Gold, same filler as the rest of the body.

This seems like as good a thread as any scoop-related one for my question: The black hood scoop that came with my Mk4 complete kit seems like a fairly resilient hard plastic. It doesn't act or feel like gel or 'glass. I want the scoop smoothly blended into the hood with no screws / bolts showing. Can that be done with the scoop I have or do I need to fab a glass scoop using the black plastic as a mold?

The black scoops are ABS plastic and can’t be bonded and blended to the fiberglass hood…well, they can but the chances of long term success are slim. For the first couple of years of Mk4 production the scoops were red gelcoat fiberglass. The underside was unfinished glass mat like was discussed above and the shape was not symmetrical left to right and the flange has to be trimmed. If you can deal with that I have one and will trade you for your plastic one if you pick up the shipping both ways. Shoot me a PM if you’re interested.

Thanks Jeff. I'll mull it over.

I used the aluminum scoop from CSXparts.com on my roadster, and am happy with it. You can see some photos comparing it to the FFR plastic scoop in this thread (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?42563-Narrower-hood-scoop), and photos of it installed and painted in my build thread.
