Hi. I've searched several build threads and posts, and can't quite find the answer to this specific question:

Will an aftermarket Electric Power Steering kit, like from ePowerSteering (https://epowersteering.com/purchase/product/factory-five-mk3-4-roadster-kit), fit properly with a Coyote Gen 3 motor inside a MKIV?

My Canadian kit is on order, and the balance of parts (including steering rack) will be sourced in Canada. Trying to decide between the KRC Coyote Gen 3 hydraulic pump kit, or an electric kit like from ePowerSteering.

Thanks!

Been sitting waiting for others to respond. Since there are no signs others I will give you my opinion.

I am not familiar with epowersteering, however I struggle to understand why you would do anything other than the proven true and perfect fit KRC unit on a coyote.

I have done many hot rods and pickups with The FFR electric and they work great, I am not aware of a kit for a roadster.

Hi (nice to meet you). This is my first FFR project. The cost of the KRC kit after exchange in Canada just prompts me to explore options. There could be a decent electric alternative out there that people (with a MKIV and Coyote) have had success with. The KRC looks like a very good hydraulic kit, and chances are better than even that that is what I end up with. I was also looking at Forte's kit, but I think it comes without a reservoir.

I can say the KRC is very nice in that it tucks right in to a recession in the front of the engine and is very easy to instal. My gen 2 also has PS leads that I had to hide away. Depending on where the electric PS pump mounts it might not be an advantage. The KRC pump comes with a valve that is way over boosted for the roadster, so you’ll need to install the lowest boost valve, which is also easy. If the electric pumps have an easy way to fine tune the power output that would be superior to the KRC.

I had a call today from Ken at ePowerSteering. He was talking with someone else today, working on a Type 65 Coupe with a Coyote Gen 3. Apparently, with a slight modification to a bracket, he was able to fit the EPAS kit from ePowerSteering behind the dash. That's all I know so far. Ken said that the fellow was going to send him some pictures, and that he'd forward on to me. (I'm not holding by breath, but it would be good to know if there is an alternative to the KRC hydraulic kit.) If the MKIV and Type 65 are fundamentally the same frame, is this even possible? Is the engine bay and the space behind the dash comparable?

No... Don't assume that. Not saying whether it would fit or not. But the Gen 3 Coupe and Roadster chassis designs are significantly different.

For this purpose, there's no difference in any of the Coyote versions. Might make a difference whether you're using long tube headers (highly recommended) or J-pipes. That's if you were trying to put the EPAS unit outside the footbox. But just looking at some pictures, not sure it would fit there anyway. Pretty much has to go inside the footbox and probably right behind the dash as mentioned.

I haven't received any pictures from ePowerSteering yet. Maybe it was too good to be true!

Does anyone have any experience or comments on pros and cons for the following hydraulic power steering set-ups?

- FFR Coyote Power Steering Kit, P/N 16461. I believe this comes with steering rack, timing cover bracket, pulley, pump, belt, hoses, and a separately mounted reservoir.
- KRC Coyote Power Steering Kit. Does not come with the steering rack, but comes with timing cover bracket, pulley, pump, belt, and an integrated reservoir on the pulley/pump bracket. Not sure about hoses.
- Fortes Coyote Power Steering Kit. Does not come with the steering rack, does not come with a reservoir, does not come with hoses. Comes with motor bracket, pulley, idler pulley, tensioner, belt, and pump. Seams to have a lot more moving parts than the other two kits.

Thanks!

16461 is the previous style KRC Coyote setup with the separate reservoir. Had that one on my #8674 build. Don't believe it's offered any more and no reason to use it anyway. The newer style with the integrated tank is easier to install and much cleaner.

16473 is the part number listed on the order forms for the KRC Coyote setup. If you're going with Coyote + KRC it's the one to have. It's KRC Power Steering 66302125 Ford Boss 302 Coyote Hydraulic Power Steering Kit plus whatever parts Factory Five includes. I have this in my Gen 3 Coupe. But I bought separately so can't confirm what Factory Five includes or doesn't include. Since the KRC setup by itself is a little over $800, I'm guessing for the price the Factory Five kit does include the powered rack and hoses. Wouldn't make sense to charge > $1000 for #16473 and give you a manual rack. I'd check with them on that. One other comment. I've seen a number of posts where guys have replaced the hoses that Factory Five provides. Apparently they're pretty generic rubber hoses for a universal fit. Many upgrade to SS flex hoses with -AN fittings and custom make for better look and fit. Mark at Breeze has a kit just for this purpose. So maybe don't get too upset if the Factory Five kit doesn't include hoses.

The Coyote power steering kit that Forte provides mounts in the location where an A/C compressor is typically mounted on a Coyote, e.g. bottom front RH corner. As opposed to KRC that doesn't get in the way of any standard front accessories (alternator, water pump, A/C compressor). If you're not installing A/C, obviously not an issue. But just note the difference. The Forte kit also uses a standard OE style Ford mod motor pump. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But KRC does make their own pumps and are arguably higher quality. Plus they have the changeable flow valve which is a very nice feature to adjust the amount of boost. The Forte setup also doesn't have the integrated reservoir which is a nice feature.

Hope that helps a little.

Helps a lot! I'll see if 16473 is available to include in my order. Thanks.
