Hi all,
Parting lines: what a P.I.T.A! Red dust everywhere. My body is certainly not as good as Steves (GoDadGo). I had to grind down the seams to the bare fiberglass and beyond to get the gel coat out and expose the cracks and holes. Such a joy! I wish I had a booth to contain the dust; it took me two days to clean the garage. Anyway, here are some pics of where it is today. Many endless hours of enjoyment left.

I can practically see through the body now at the seams. Next filling and MORE SANDING.

Hope everyone is well,

Jeff

Welcome to my world! Now you know why my wife calls me "Pigpen" and makes me leave my clothes outside when I come in from the shop.

BTW, from your photos it looks like you actually got a pretty good body. Did you find any clay?

Yeah, PigPen, it is! My clothes were saturated too. I did not find any clay (or gold either), in my mining experience. Thank you for your review of the body; I guess as long as it is still in one piece it is good. There were some gouges also that I had to grind deep to get get out; didn't hit the cloth 'tho.
I plan to use Evercoat "Vette Panel Adhesive and Filler" on the deep places because it is polyester and "won't shrink" and is engineered for fiberglass. Is that any good? Then the proverbial Rage Gold.
Thanks,
Jeff
BTW how long is your waiting time if I really get fed up?

The bodies are not polyester they are vinylester. I don’t recommend mixing them. I use vinylester based 3M High Strength Repair Filler 46013 for any big repairs before Rage Gold.

OMG, Jeff! You just have saved me from a fate worse than….well , bad stuff anyway.
Just because the can says it is for fiberglass doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. Polyester, vinylester, epoxy, etc. all different and require their won stuff:

is for “Plastic Fantastics”

3M HSRF is for REAL cars!

Thank you for your comments

Proceeding with caution,

Happy to help! And that's why I won't take cars that someone has already started putting materials on.
