Forza 4

[Someday I Suppose]

Hey guys, just wanted to throw up a post on this, Forza 4 came out this week. There are a few of us Cobra guys who have been doing some serious racing on Forza 3 for hard to think almost 2 years now and with Forza 4 coming out wanted to see if anyone else wants to join the fun.

We are usually online on Monday and Thursday nights starting around 8 - 8:30 eastern time and go till around 10:00 or so. Most of us have the wheel controller and some sort of seat set-up which just adds to the fun, but controllers are fine as well, its all just good fun.

I'll be on tomorrow for sure, my gamer tag is Whaleshark71, and I will update the list with some of the other names as well.

I'm tempted to pick up Forza 4, but I haven't been using the XBox enough to justify the purchase quite yet...it'll happen though. Don't think I'm good enough to race with you guys though. Hearing some of the stories from Brian and Jim sounds like you're all way faster than I am...might join in though.

Dave, you gotta jump in :-) You will be surprised how quickly you can get up to speed.

When we started I was so out to lunch compared to David, Jim, and Brian. Brian still tends to be the fastest but only because he refuses to use a wheel <G>.

The racing though has gotten so close it is just crazy, especially in the slower cars that are a bit more forgiving when racing close and having an occasional rub. Monday night, Jim and I finished the first race with both of us having an identical fast lap time down to the thousandth of a second. Second race, Jim and I crossed the finish line 1-2 with an identical race time, again to the thousandth of a second.

This is the first time in years I have been on a computer game! Sit in a car type seat and it's awesome! I could get addicted to this game and drive it for hours!!

I wish they had it for PC! I have two nice FFB steering wheels and some killer PC driving games. GT Legends, Sportscar GT, etc. plus all the arcade stuff like the whole Need for Speed series and more... bummer...

Mustang Man, see if you can find a second-hand copy of GTR2 for PC. It is an update in every way to GT Legends (which I also enjoyed for years), and has hundreds of courses available for free online in addition to the ones it comes with. Don't fall for the myriad other GTR titles they produced, though GTR2 might be bundled with one or more of the others in that series.

Wow. I just read through this thread. I may have to pick up a copy and join in. I have two force feed back wireless wheels sitting in my closet that I will be using to build two arcade type seat setups around for my family and I. Maybe I can take a break from the GTM build and knock one of them out.

David, sorry for not responding on this, as noted it is Forza 4 on the Xbox that we are playing. As for wheels, most of us are using the Microsoft Wireless Racing Wheel. I went to do a search for it, and it looks like they are in limited supply right now. Wiki says thats because there is a new version that was due out in September. The old one was around $100 though.

As for seats, a few of us have seats that the pedals and wheel mount too, like this one http://www.gamechairstore.com/Playseat-Evolution-Alcantara-Game-Chair-w-Frame-in-Black-235514.htm. A few guys have also built their own stands, Jim I think welded something up and put a race seat he had available in it, Gary built a whole wooded simulator in his garage.

There are also a few guys who race using controllers as well, though I dont know if it is as fun as with a wheel.

xbox wheels are pretty limited, xbox wireless has force feedback and is pretty cheap,

however the fanatec crs wheels are head and shoulders better than that, and the fanatec crs eliteis pretty much the best option

if ur on pc there is alot of logitech wheels that are also very very good,

btw is gtr2 worth getting, im starting to do pc sims, ive got gtr evo but there are not many racers online,

GTR evo is actually a newer title than GTR2, but it lost a big step in the physics as they adopted the Race07 physics engine rather than the GTR2 engine.

There aren't too many people left playing GTR2 online, but if you can find the title and give it a few hours you'll wonder why anyone interested in racing sims is using anything else. There are tons of downloadable cars and tracks available, too.

Last night was a blast! I will start tuning some more cars so we can have the old spec CMC cars and some other fun tunes again! I miss the integra from forza 3. I also want to tune the C*bra. =)

The A Class Coupe tune is a work of art! It handles like buttah! :cool:

I was trying to tune the Coupe and C*bra to be equal. So far it seems like the Coupe handles better and is easier to drive and the C*bra is faster in a straight line. Should be a fun time!

Im working on a couple of really fun tuning set ups for some more cars! So far the CMC cars are probably the most fun to drive in my opinion. I will try to tune some faster cars that are still easy to drive. I might try to make a new KONI Challenge in A class. That was a fun group of cars in Forza 3!

We need more racers! Last night had a pretty small running group. We still had some great races. One race had an epic finish where John George and I finished 0.05 seconds apart!

Not sure if I will have it set-up for Thursday or if it will have to wait for the weekend to get mounted, but I am psyched... And David was totally correct, the Thrustmaster wheel doesn't have true force feedback, it has progressive resistance which is basically bungie cords. After looking at the options I ordered a Fanatec and can't wait to play with it!!

We should do an endurance race soon in honor of the 25 hour race! Maybe like an hour long race. Full simulation, with pit stops. Anyone interested?

We should have an endurance race when you come back then. We will need to pick cars and a track. Jim will need to practice using the clutch to downshift because endurance races are more fun with simulation on for tire wear! =P

Been talking to a buddy @ work, bought his 6 year old twins daughters an xbox for Christmas, to play some dance game or such.
He was telling me he also bought Forza and a driving wheel. I sent him the link to this topic and told him to join you guys, but he said you are way out of his league.
btw, he loved the dedicated driving seat and controls.

Last night I went to his house for our monthly Poker game and he fired up the xbox & Forza on his 65" TV.
THAT WAS COOL! It was like looking out the windshield.
I took the Lambo around Lemans for 2 laps. Pretty neat.

If I wasn't spending all of my lunch money on roadster parts, I'd be buying a setup and joining you guys. What a blast!

I can only imagine sitting in Wayne's driver seat!! (my wife hates all of the car shows I DVR now. If I had that, she'd never get me off of the TV!) :cool:

We have had some great racing lately! We need some more new members to all get on and race together. The main group of guys have been running for a while and we are pretty fast now. It seems like alot of the newer guys are getting discouraged. It can be frustrating for a group of guys to disappear a couple of turns into a race. If we had some more new guys there would be some more competition and it would be more fun for the other new guys.

Join the group!!! It is a blast! It takes a while to get fast, but it is worth the effort. =)

What Brian said, it is just too much fun, good group of guys, I've learned so much about these cars from playing online, and its a bunch of fun. As for getting fast, learning the tracks is the hardest part, Maple Valley, Road American, Road Atlanta, Mugello, are ones we tend to run a bunch, once you learn them, you will be in great shape!
