Anyone know a good app for paint? I would like to see the car in multiple colors before I pick. Thanks, Dale

Home Depot ProjectColor. It's for rooms, but maybe it can work for cars. But...it will give you names of Home Depot paints. Still you can change colors. Have you tried PPG or House of Color?

Go to a car dealership and look at the color of all the cars on the lot.

ProjectColor sorta works; but the fill is not perfect.

Oh, I guess that is because my car has just been sanded on the parting lines. Maybe can work if the car is all one color.

Don't make this so hard on yourself. You know the color. It's in your head. You've seen it. You are just having self doubt. Stop second guessing yourself and follow the swinging watch and the sound of my voice....close your eyes.....you're getting sleepy......NOW CLUCK LIKE A CHIKEN, BARK LIKE A DOG, PUT YOUR RIGHT INDEX FINGER ON THE TIP OF YOUR NOSE AND TELL ME THE COLOR OF THE COBRA YOU SEE... you're welcome...da Bat......SO ?......seriously! I have been painting cars for 40 years....that's-a-lot-o'-customers who don't know what color to use. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE KNEW THE COLOR THEY WANTED ! Dale, for me when I was choosing a colour I tried a software but it did not work well. Instead I reviewed a lot of photos of cobras from various manufacturers and then saved ones in each colour I thought were of interest. For me yellow, white, grey, black and browns were all out. Now there are some really nice cobras in those colours but black is high maintenance and I had a gravel drive so that was a no. There are some really nice grey/silver shades that looked great especially with the colour stripes. White I did not do it justice as I have now seen a couple really nice ones and it was just not a colour I considered and honestly think white cars boring but that is me. Red....yeah red. Now there are some really nice shades and with the right colour stripes I think they can look great but red was not “classic” enough for me. Green, specifically BRG was in the running for a bit but honestly I kept coming back to my first and favourite, blue. Then there is the shade or should I say shades of blue. There are a lot and Indigo Ink was near the top but a light blue called me over and over again plus a pale blue seemed more ‘60’s to me so I was down to Viking, aka Princess, Guardsman and Portofino (Tks Todd Buttrick).

My inspiration

Mine in Viking with Wimbledon White stripes
139339

Todd’s in Portofino

Now some random beauties that are dark blue just to mess with you!

Good luck with your choice Dale. I am just up the road from you a ways and hope to start my second build later this year.

KDubU,
I too am facing gravel. I love black with gold stripes, the color of my first Camaro but...

So I'm looking at something else, maybe red or green, not sure yet.

I can't find any program that does real justice to pain8th car online so I'm pretty much down to check colors of folks on the forums and paint suppliers websites. Thanks for your insights.

Best to see color in the light versus a monitor or ink representation. It was like a diamond in the rough, but I actually found a Porsche in a Lowe's parking lot that had Carmine Red. It's a special order color so no many around. But like Rich said...go to a car lot and see it in person.

A bump to the OP's question with a slight twist, is there any online portal that you have used that allows you to search for a specific color and have it return the paint codes for the various big providers and maybe some basic facts like if it is 2 stage or 3 stage?

I have been looking for the paint code for a color used by Superformance called Diamond Black and I think it might have been used by BMW in the 80's/90's but I am doubting myself because I don't remember any cool car colors in the 80's.

By far the best way to look at colors is in real life. We had decided on silver but which one? I was working as a Lexus tech at the time and one day I walked into the shop and there, all next to each other, were 5 silver cars. Different models, different years and they were all silver, but all were different. I actually approached two people in the HD parking lot because they got out of a silver car. Usually, a given make, model will have just one silver in any given year. So I just asked what year their car was and was able to find the code. A few had a light silver and a dark silver but it was easy to pick which I wanted.
