Hi All,

I've been lurking, asking questions here and there via PM, lurking some more, but finally placed my order today! It is somewhat unconventional compared to a lot of the builds I've read through, but that's part of the fun, right?

Early during quarantine I picked up an 02 Mustang GT to part out, mainly with the intent of beefing up the TR3650 inside to mate up to a Coyote. Turns out someone swapped it for a T45... I did manage to save a lot of other good parts from the car though and plan on incorporating them into my build. Some things, like the electrical, I didn't even want to try to save though.

My plan is as follows:
-Base Kit
-Dual Roll Bars w/ Grommets
-Wind Wings
-Powder Coat
-Autometer Gauges
-Electrical System Completion Components
-Coyote and all the various install packages
-Trans is still undecided, may go TKx or the pain of massaging the MT82
-IRS
-Hydroboost brakes
-Power Steering (MR2 or Mini Cooper Based)
-17" Wheels, leaning towards black bullitt wheels
-Trunk Box / Glove Box
-Considering Lizard Skin, otherwise some other form of sound/heat barrier
-Skidd's Turn Signal Mod, I dabble in Raspberry Pi
-Small creature comforts like cupholders, maybe heat seats

When it comes to color options I'm going BRG, likely more on the Ivy green side, with white stripes. The interior may end up getting changed over to a saddle brown, but I'll get a better feel for what all that would take by the time I get to that point.

My name is Ryan and I'm located in Houston, hopefully you guys can help me build the "Covid Cobra"

Congrats Ryan! Looks like you have a good plan. Curious about your choice or thoughts on the M82 over TKO, the former I thought has some reported issues and isn’t there a pending class action suit? Not that that says much as everyone sues for anything these days. The TKO is pretty proven with these cars and as you likely know in many.

No massaging needed for a TKO. Plug and play. Possible name for the car Covra. Great looking build plan.

Don't miss the new TKX transmission.

If I understand right - it has the newer design multicone synchros so it shifts like a T5 or T56 rather than the TKOs / top loaders / Muncies / etc.

I'm waiting for someone to do the TKX with coyote to review fitment and performance. While I have a TKO, I hate how it shifts at high RPM.

Hi Ryan,

I'm in the Houston area also, Montgomery and would like come down and see what you have going on. I'm just starting to research an FF project to start next spring.I plan on stealing the engine and drivetrain rear end and suspension plus whatever else I can get out of my sons AI Mustang race car. We have a lot of Ford racing parts in the car and would like to use as many parts possible. Good luck with the build T.M.

Thanks everyone,

The MT82 is really only in the running due to most used Coyotes advertised with a trans attached to them. I'm going to reach out to a few of the sellers when the time comes and see what their pricing would be for engine only. Most of the reliability issues with it have been slowly addressed and the weight of this car helps alleviate them some as well. I haven't heard of a "good" transmission in a Mustang since the T5. This is probably a combination of penny pinching by Ford and drivers beating on them, but as you said... The jury is still out on that one. Going with the MT82 for me is basically about economics, but I still need to play around with wheel, rear, and gear ratio calculators to see what makes sense. I've read 1st in the MT82 in a Roadster is pretty useless.

The TKX would be my choice otherwise. It allegedly fixes all the problems Tremec claimed they never had with the TKO and is more compact than the T56.

and Bojets - There isn't really much to see at this point, just a bunch of donor parts and stuff I'm not keeping that needs sold. Delivery isn't until mid-March, so I'm in the "shop prep" phase.

MT82 gearing is peculiar - 5th gear being the 1:1 drive, as opposed to 4th gear being 1:1 in every other transmission you'd consider for a roadster.

I'm thinking a 2.73 rear ratio (or maybe 2.47 if you could find one) puts you in the right neighborhood in the 8.8 case (for MT82).

I think the "super" 8.8 only goes down to 3.15 currently, which is *probably* not going to work well with a MT82.

I'm running 393W / T56 / 3.15 8.8 with 6k rev limiter - 2.97 1st gear is pretty good in a roadster (@ 3.15) - .56 6th gear is not especially useful (@ 3.15).
