View Full Version : Body work question
I have read a few posts but just want to ensure I am going in the right direction. I have removed the passenger side roll bar and will need to fill the 3 holes in an unfinished Mark 3 body. From what I have read;
1. I should use a fiberglass mesh from underneath to form a platform or base.
2. feather out the holes from the top to get rid of the sharp edges
3. Use a product like Everglass short strand body filer to fill the 1/8 deep hole
4. Finish the top layer with Rage Gold
Does it matter what type of mesh or resin I use on the underneath side of the body?
Thanks for any advice.

If the body is off of the car then the repair will be very easy to do because you can get to both sides, but one-sided repairs are easy too.
Here is an easy way to get an idea as to what you need to do.

Vynilester or Polyester resin will work just fine.
It's a lot easier than you think so good luck and happy hole patching.

If you really want it to stick properly, you shouldn't use polyester resin. In fact I wouldnt use it for anything as polyester resin is not waterproof and it shrinks so you risk long term cosmetic issues through the paint, polyester is only used because it is cheap. You should use vinylester, or epoxy. The glass matrix that you use isn't too important so long as you get fibres running in multiple directions, so the easiest is chop mat, otherwise use a woven or stitched fabric in multiple layers and arrange each layer at a different angle.
Thanks for the info, makes sense. Do I build up the layers with fiberglass then just use the Gold for a top coat, or is it ok to use filler to build it up?

For any filling that we did on my car, we used Evercoat's Fibertech and then top coated it with the Rage Gold product.

The stuff is used for structural repairs and it works well as a foundation plus I found it easier to deal with compared to their Rage Gold.

The final finish work was done with Rage Gold and it came out really nice.

Please know I had to bring in my pal Sammy to help me since I'm a Banker and he's a Professional Body & Fender Fellow.
Thanks again for the clarification and video links. And car looks great....nice work
