I kind of know that I am asking for the impossible, but does anybody have a nice solution for mounting a front license plate? I just hate the look and I am finding that my 427 gets hot in traffic so I don't really want to cutter up the radiator opening more than necessary, although I suspect that is a bit of me trying to justify to myself why I shouldn't have one.

In New Zealand we are required to have a standard issue reflective white license plate mounted vertically and visible from 100ft in front of the car, as well as one on the rear. It is a $200 fine for not displaying one. I have been driving for 4 months without one and I am still slightly paranoid about it. I have just completed the design of some new Police Interceptor patrol boats for our Police and I drove the Cobra into their base earlier this week, and they all thought the car was cool and said putting a plate on the front would ruin it, but I know that one day I will get stopped by a less reasonable officer and receive a ticket, or worse still from a parking warden.

Today our local club said they have received notice that from now on the Police would have a plate recognition car at all future events and so we need to get a plate mounted...........pooh!

So does anybody have or seen any smart ideas for mounting? I figure there aren't too many options and I am going to have to choose the lesser of the evils.....mount centrally in the radiator opening, hang it off an indicator light on one side.......I know that you can get the fold away mounts but not sure that will save me if pulled over? I have a functioning oil cooler below the main radiator. We are not allowed to use a sticker like the British do and I hate the look of them anyway..........impossible to please I acknowledge.

I used some leftover aluminum cut-outs from the kit and riveted them to a blank plate from Amazon.

I bent the aluminum pieces to give the blank plate some forward spring loading and support. It keeps the license plate from contacting the body and flopping around in the wind.

A chrome license plate frame from Amazon finishes it off. Seems pretty solid so far - no rattles or body contact at high speeds or on rough roads. Good luck.

Some, who live in places that require a front plate, take that plate and throw it down the road to scratch it up, then carry it in the trunk. If stopped, say "it just fell off".

+1. However, the item that Dave (Papa) highlighted looks pretty appealing.
