View Full Version : Finally ordered my kit
After years of trolling this forum and 30 years of dreaming of building a Cobra one day, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered my roadster complete kit. I知 going with IRS, Wilwoods, and the coyote. Thanks to Mike Forte for spending so much time going over everything with me along with Dave at FFR. And thanks to everyone on this forum who have spent endless hours documenting their builds so guys like me can learn. Now I have three months to clean out my one car garage and figure out how I知 going to build a cobra in it. I can definitely store all the parts elsewhere but I知 going to need to get the body as high up as possible.
I知 sure you guys will be hearing from me as I知 very good with a wrench and following directions but the real technical stuff is where I will need help. I am also well aware that you guys are equally as good at providing help as you are at spending others money. I知 not sure my wallet fully knows what痴 coming but that痴 ok.

Welcome Tony. There have been quite a few 1 car garage builds. As you already know you need to build the tallest body buck you can fit. Three other thoughts. Triangulate the down legs so when you push, and a wheel catches on something that leg doesn't bend/snap. Do all you can to have a smooth transition garage floor to drive way. I think it may well be best to have two casters and two non swivel wheels. The whole thing doesn't weigh that much so if you happen to need to scoot the non-swivel end sideways it's no big deal.

I'm building mine in a 1 car garage 11 ft. wide I had no problem with the size. Make sure you build the body buck with the legs spread apart enough that it will roll over your build with the wheels/tires and side pipes on. My car with wheels/tires and side pipes is 70 in. wide.

Thanks guys! Craigs, thanks for the advice. I’m considering an extra high body buck or lifting it up to the ceiling using kayak hoists (I seem to remember a previous post where someone did this with a kayak hoist on each end). JR, I just measured my garage and it’s 10ft 6 in. It will be completely empty with the exception of the car and my tool chest. So hopefully I’ll be fine.

Congratulations! Storing stuff in a small space is always challenging. If you plan to hang the body, make sure it's not interfering with the garage door. You may also want to get a cheap overhead shop light to hang under/in the body to compensate for the light you loose from the body's shadow.
Have fun and enjoy the adventure!!!

Welcome Aboard, But Couldn't You Have Gone With A Chevy Style Powerplant Instead?
.......................All kidding aside, welcome to the family!
Great idea. You can never have enough light that’s for sure. Thank you!

Thank you! I thought about it after reading many of your posts but decided to stick with what has already been done hundreds of times before, the coyote.

Congrats and welcome Tony! Only advise I can add is however you choose to lift the body, make it so you can lift the front and back separately and mark the floor where the chassis is the first time. This way you can install / remove the body by yourself without too much effort. Your in for a blast....

Congrats to you too! When’s your delivery/ pickup date? Mine is the end of February or at least that’s what Dave at FFR told me on Friday before I ordered it.

Thanks Dale I didn’t even think about that. If I plan it right I will be able to pretty much lower the body right onto the frame.
