View Full Version : Simple Solution for Getting My Roadster Up On My Lift Without Jacks

Since installing my lift, I've had to jack up the car to allow the lift arms to clear the pipes. I found some inexpensive low-profile ramps that I can just drive up on (front & rear) that get the car just high enough to allow me to swing the lift arms under.

Perfect! Still looking good Dave :) I think we're just a little past a year since it left here. I did one in the exact same combination a few weeks ago...the owner said "I want it to look just like Papa's"

Hope you're doing well!

Thanks Jeff! We're staying healthy here; working from home since March. The car is doing great with right at 3,000 miles on the odometer. The color combo gets a lot of compliments; no regrets going with my heart on the colors. On my last club drive, we had nine cars and mine was the only blue one!

Take care and stay safe,
Dave

Does that include the miles inside the trailer? These GPS speedos seem to do some odd things---after I transported your car's twin to it's owner in Chicago a couple of weeks ago he sent me a message asking just how fast I was going with the car in my trailer because his speedometer memory indicated a top speed of 126 MPH!

What I did was buy 2 2X12 planks angled the leading edges and just leave them there on the floor. Also another good thing is my car lives there so the tires are always on wood instead of the concrete. BTW Mr. Kleiner that is great paint work.

Yep, that includes the 600 miles in the trailer. Interesting about the speed. I'm curious how these things get so confused.

Interesting. I may do that where the car normally sits.

I actually just found a different listing on Amazon for a set of four a few bucks cheaper than buying two sets.

Wow these are perfect. I have 2x10s and they are a complete pain. They have warped of course so they wiggle every time I drive on and off. These plus some flat sections made the same would be perfect.

Thanks Papa, just ordered a set.

I'm using the same thing for mine and they work great. My only (minor) complaint is that they slide around on the fancy floor paint I used, it just doesn't have enough friction to keep them in place. I'm thinking about adding some weight and anti-vibration rubber strips to them.

One trick to keep ramps from sliding on you is to get a cheap set of rubber floor mats and set the ramps on them.

Yep, this works quite well. I bought some dense rubber exercise mats and cut them to fit my two ramps (jack would not fit under the front end of the car on the ground). The ramps would scoot forward on my plastic tile floor. I cut the rubber a few inches longer than the ramp so that the tires would put some weight on them before going up the incline. It is not perfect as sometimes the ramp will still move.

I don't use the ramps much anymore since I purchased the Quickjacks. But they will come in handy for oil changes.

Just take a strip of 1/4" plywood longer then the 2x12, and nail it to the bottom of the 2x12. Leave it sticking out the end you drive up on.
As you drive up on the plywood, the weight will hold the 2x12 in place.

Hey Papa, where did you get those chrome rock guards behind your door? I am looking for a set of matte black ones to protect my paint

Is "sitting on concrete" bad for the tires? I heard that's an old wives tale.

I got the "spats" from VeryCoolParts.com. They are a vendor on the forum, but don't list the parts on their website. Give them a call to see when they plan to produce another batch.

Yes, you're correct. Bias ply tires would get a flat spot from setting, but that would quickly disappear as you drove. Radial tires are not affected.

For ramps sliding, two suggestions: old carpet samples (those rectangles about 2'x3'), or better yet, harbor freight sells those square 1" thick foam mats really cheap. And parking on them really helped with my flat spotting issue on the Kumho's that my 911 came with. (Side note: kumhos suck).

As for parking on concrete, one additional issue is hot tires causing some floor paints to peel.

I bought some race ramps that work ok, but they have a tendency to slide. I can get my front up just enough to slide the arms under front and back.
I like the looks of the ones on Amazon, great price.

Yup, had bought the same ones and had really bad slippage problems. Especially, on the plastic RaceDeck tiles...rubber mat is the ticket.
