I mounted the charcoal canister but have a question about the vent line hookup. FFR sends a 5/16" section of hose for the tank vent and it fits fine at the tank, but at the canister there are two nipples, one appears to be 1/4" and the other 3/8". Looks like I'll need some sort of coupler to go from 5/16" to one of those nipples. My question is, does it matter which one the vent hose attaches to?

I tried a search with no luck, and the manual does not contain anything on the canister.

I made my own cannister out of PVC pipe, fish tank charcoal, and various fittings to connect. Not a hint of gas fumes. Not sure if you are using recycled stock Ford unit, or what.

I'm not sure what I have either, it was included in the kit.

I had the same problem...couldn't find anything about this canister or how to plumb it.
Here's how I hooked it up...

Dan Golub at FF said this is correct. I found the mushroom vent caps that fit on the two big vents for $10 at https://www.foxresto.com/1979-93-Mustang-5-0-Charcoal-Canister-Cap-p/4879006.htm

Thanks Frank. I have been waiting on Dan at FFR to answer me on how to plumb this. How did you determine that those two big vents needed those plugs?

I came across them on another forum when I was searching for the plumbing info. I'm not sure which one, could have been ffcars.com or a Mustang forum:confused:

I believe they came in an authentic Ford Parts bag from Fox Mustang Restoration and they fit perfectly...slip right on, snug.

As far as the other small port, some (like me) just vented it to the atmosphere; some run a line to the carb or EFI with an in-line purge valve. I guess it feeds the vapors into the intake to burn them when the engine is running.

Good luck,
Frank

I bought these also. However, I don't see how they are attached? I can put them on the two holes, but they don't lock into place. The firstl bump will knock them off. Did you use any adhesive?

FWIW...

I just glued in two regular pipe fitting caps onto mine. Used the remaining glue from my floor panel installation. Seems to work fine.

I ended up mounting mine in a horizontal position, I reduced the 5/16" vent line to 1/4" and connected to that port. I attached a short piece of 3/8" hose to the larger port and left it open. I'll wait to see if I need those plugs.138274
