I'm about to install my windshield and I noticed this somewhat hidden portion of the assembly manual, without any follow-up detail:

137073

I assume this goes around the inside edge of the window frame on the inside of the cockpit?

1. Are most people installing this or leaving it off? I don't recall seeing it in many build photos.
2. Does it generally get installed along the front of the dashboard too? Or just on the sides and top?
3. This will cause the window to become slightly raised from the window frame— is that okay, will it still bond well? Or is it fine as long as you put enough sealant on?

I didn't use it. Got the opening clean and straight before paint. Put my spray I used on the underside of the body (UPOL Raptor) right up to the edge. My painter finished up to the edge on the outside. With the frit in the windshield, no visible from the outside. Clean and straight so looks OK on the inside. I too was afraid it would interfere with the windshield bond. With the right amount of urethane, would be fine. But I didn't want to mess with it.

I used door stripping instead. I have a headliner and it nicely hides the edges.

I installed my windshield without a surround. I hired a professional w/ over 40 years experience. Didn't trust myself.

Also put this on the door opening for the same reason.
