Aw man, I didn't know Kershaw was going to be there. I should have used some PTO and gone up there for the meet. Crap, I gotta stop working so hard. I'm missing out...

I see Magnus drove down too, but after his cross country trip that must have been like going out to get milk for him... :p

A little story about Magnus and his drive. He goes all the across the country and back and then makes a puny little drive from Maryland to Charlotte only to have his clutch fail as he's pulling into the parking lot of the Quaker Steak and Lube. Go figure.

Great event! This was my first "road trip" with only 500 miles on the car. Coming down from Raleigh we hit bad traffic that extended the trip by 50 minutes. Lots of stop and go - a real test of the cooling system. On the way home we hit two more traffic issues delaying the return trip by 45 minutes. At one point it took 20 minutes to go a half mile. The car ran like a champ. Temperature never exceeded 95C and most of the time it sat at 80-85C. Thanks to Whitby Motor Cars for a great paint/finish job and to LevyRacing for a strong and reliable engine.

Hi Al,

This is the best time of the day. FFR Mk4 in the left lane, and Jim's 427 Cobra (driven by Bob Tasca) in the Right Lane.

Jim Maxwell - Owner of the 427 Cobra. Jim made the generous offer to use his original 427 Cobra in the 2 day comparison.

Dave Smith - Factory Five Racing Mk4 (Coyote)

The tree is green, and Dave Smith & Bob Tasca are lighting up the rear tires on another strong run down the strip.

You may see an Mk4 and an original cobra parked next to each other at a car show, but the odds are very high that you won't
see them in multiple rounds of full out drag racing through the quarter mile. Needless to say, this was a very cool day, made
possible by the generosity and efforts of a very cool group of people.

I no nothing about nothing.... but I can tellyou what , I don't think you will ever find anybody more of a gentleman the Jim Maxwell. How many people would let their real Cobra's be flogged like that.
Factory 5 indeed had a very rare opportunity to do this deal. So did the guys from Muscle Car tv.
STIG... thanks a ton for sharing these great pictures. I can't wait to see the show.
It will be great to see the interviews from all the people that got to be interviewed.

As someone who hasn't even made a purchase, yet, I want to say it was a great opportunity to get over to the Charlotte area and meet some really cool people. It was even a bigger honor when Dave (the man himself) asked my wife and I to come over to Z-Max Dragstrip the next morning and checkout some of the racing that will be aired on Musclecar TV. It's not often you get to meet such a great group of guys like that! Now, I just can't wait to place my order...

I was in Charlotte for the two days of track testing. GREAT TIME! Also a real pleasure to meet everyone. Jim Maxwell is super cool and let me flog his original car. What a rare opportunity I had to compare both cars in hard driving/limits driving. The show will air on MuscleCar in about February. I'll ask mad dog to throw up some pics, but Al and Stig did a durn good job. After two days in Charlotte, I'm fixin to git some drag racin tars.

HUGE thanks to everyone who came to the cruise-in. I hardly had any time to spend with folks and the night was over. Thanks to Jeff Collins for setting up the restaurant and for bringing his support truck and car. Just a great time and I cant wait to watch the show.

LOL!!! Still sticking to that "11 second flat" story huh?...

No seriously; Dave's Red Coyote Roadster had a bejesus amount of power! On a couple of runs, he was digging for all it had, and just as he was on the top end of 2nd going to 3rd, the tires would break loose and start spinning, and carry the spin into third gear. All the while, the little red roadster was pointing towards the other lane.

True to form Dave kept his foot in it until the last possible second when he let off and got it pointed down the track again. When he came back around to the staging area, I pounded on my chest to get my heart started again. He looked over (through his Stig Helmet), and laughed. Or at least it looked like he was laughing. If it were me, I'd have probably been saying my Hail Mary's at the prospect of doing that again.

But he and Mr. Tasca lined 'em back up and went for it again; both pulling their fastest time of the session.

I agree with you Dave. With a good set of "Racin' Tars", that car would absolutely Rip! When that Mk4 gets hooked up, I think that any car would be hard pressed to hang with it. From what I saw, 11 flat may be rather conservative.

All I can say is that was some demonstration of car control from both Dave and Bob!

What a fun day!

117 mph trap speed is a mid to high 11 second ET for a car set up like that assuming good traction. It really needs to run close to 125 mph to stand a chance of going 11 flat. I would say it's a solid mid 11 second ride with decent 'tars' but I'd like to be proven wrong....

I love drag racing better then I like to eat.
From the other forum.. I guess its ok to post
Those "tars" on the Red car sure didn't help any

What a great weekend. Thank you to everyone who came out in support of this event. The cars are cool, but it is the people that make gatherings like this special. I saw and did things this weekend I never thought I would get to do. I feel like I have to single out Jim for sharing his car, there is enough great footage and information to make a mini series. I can't wait to see how it all turns out. Do you guys think there would be any interest in some sort of gathering like this around the Autofair?
Thanks again to everyone who took their time to come out, and for letting us be a part of all of this. We are working on the Christmas party now! Hope to see you all again soon.

Seeing the Roadster and 427 pictures are bringing visions of a MK4 kit invading my garage after I have some miles on my GTM.....

Thanks for all of the photos. Really good stuf.

Good eye, that was a boss intake, and according to a well placed Ford Racing source, who happened to be here that weekend, there are some more upgrades coming out of R&D for the Coyote engine.

It's never a milk-run in a car that keeps inventing novel and creative ways to change your plans every time you start it up...
