Fuel gauge drops to below E when I install the ring on the fuel tank level sender.

If I suspend the sender just above the tank it shows proper level.

The instant the metal of the sender touches fuel tank metal the gauge drops to zero.

I have tested the sender, fuel gauge, and ground. All good.

Thanks, Dale

Check continuity between the wireing posts of the sender and its housing. I dont have one handy but assume you should have an 'open' when testing. It sounds like one wire is grounded and you complete the circuit when you touch the tank

The other possibility, is the sensor wires are backward, it shouldnt make a difference, but a look at the wireing diagram would be needed to make sure.

I had not thought of reversed wires. I just went out to the shop and jumpered in some temp leads, reversed from the wiring diagram. Gauge seems to work. Will confirm by swapping the leads in the connector. THANKS

I was able to swap the leads in the connector. Gauge works now. The wiring diagram appears to be incorrect. Thanks for your help. Dale
