I'm working through wiring, and I'm laying out my Russ Thompson steering column and 520 Speedworks relay box. I need to use 2 diodes on my busbar, and am looking for suggestions on the best way to attach them.

My current thought is to try to crimp on a ring terminal one each end, and try to use a shrink tube over the diode, from terminal to terminal. Note sure the shrink tube I'd have to use to cover the diode will shrink enough for the ends.

Any alternate suggestions?

Thanks!
Ben

I just looped them around the screw on the bus bar.

Very similar to what you described, this is what I did for the diodes I used on my SDC turn signal module.

I would recommend Solder Sleeve with the eyelet or spade you are wanting, little more expensive, but with the solid wire from the Diodes will create a stress point and can lead to potential failure from harsh vibrations

something like this

Also look into other shrink tube sizes. Often you can find a pack w/ assorted sizes. I have a few times used as many as 3 pieces of shrink tube in escalating sizes shrink the smallest first. Be sure to let that cool because sometimes the next larger size will start to shrink as you try to slide it into position.

I made the whole thing a little longer and looped it. The flexibility of the the non shrink wrapped portion of the wire making a loop cuts down on stress at the connection point. So I used 3 different pieces of shrink. One for each end of the diode to the longer wire. Then one over the diode and part of the extension shrink wrap. Then one at each end of the terminal connector.

I also made sure to use different color wires on either end since they are directional and you cant see the diode after you shrink it (assuming its not clear). No terminal connector/shrink on the ends in the picture b/c I trimmed them to a length I wanted later but you get the idea.

I'm using one of these with all LED and it works great. I did not need added diodes.
