Getting ready to start the body work and want to put some bed liner or some kind of undercoat that will help keep stone stars out of the body. Any ideas of what is easy to use and dries well?

For other applications, I’ve had good luck with Herculiner (black or gray). You can roll it on and you also can get a razor sharp line with the appropriate prep & taping. I was steered away from using it on my Cobra, because my painter voiced concerns in repairing any potential damage. I used wheel well liners and they work great.

Hi ggunter. I used u-pol raptor on my coupe. I know there are a bunch of builds that also used it. seems like a great product and goes on very easy. haven't got my coupe on the road yet so not sure how it will hold up in the areas that will see rocks thrown up. Doug

After using the water and solvent based products (Herculiner, etc.) on previous builds, also used U-Pol Raptor on my Gen 3 Coupe build. Won't use anything else in the future. It's excellent. A catalyzed product so cures rather than dries and is super durable. Similar to a product like Line-X. I sprayed mine but they also have a roll on version. Highly recommended.

What ever you use, apply it before you do body work, keeping it back about 2" from the wheel well edges.
U-Pol Raptor has my vote. Used roll/brush on version and came out great.

Just mask the body better than I did or have your son clean up your Boo-Boos.

Just curious why you need to keep it a couple inches back from the wheel well edges ? What about other edges ?

The wheel wells need to be body worked.

I ended up using the Raptor product and am quite pleased with the final result. The so called professional spray gun supplied not so much. Figuring out why it would start spraying then stop, then start then stop , I kept looking at the regulator only to find out the plastic trigger on the gun would slide off the pin for the air release. So once I figured that out and made sure the trigger was square against the pin I got it to spray correctly it worked well. I got three coats overall and four on the wheel wells. That stuff is tuff, hopefully it will help protect against stars from rocks under the fenders.

Must be the outlier. Used rattle can truck bed liner spray. Its held up for 5 years of daily driving. Used the plastic inserts in the wheel wells after spraying.

Another one for Raptor. We used it recently for the first time to line the rear tubs on a race car. Very tough stuff once cured.

After the bed liner dried I tried the body on for the first time to check fit.136248136249

I put mine on after I rolled the fender edges. As Rich says keep in back from the edge where it rolls under. My fender edges are really thick and look great, I've seen FFR's fully painted where the painter/body man didn't build up the edges and it just looks and feels really really cheap.

Thanks for sharing. Based on this, I am planning on using the Upol Raptor

Yep, and it will often cause tire rub if not properly trimmed and rolled.

This has nothing to do with undercoating I just want to see if the picture will post right side up. 136262
