Hi all,

I've been thinking about paint colors for my project RE-DO (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?37089-Project-RE-DO), and I want a lighter tone of pearl blue than the Lexus Indigo Blue I had. So, naturally, I narrowed the colors down to Guardsman Blue, Toyota Speedway Blue, Superformance Royal Blue, and Viper Blue.

Among these colors, I was wondering if any of you painted your Cobra with Toyota (Tacoma) Speedway Blue, if so, please share the pictures with me. I searched around, but I could only find one from one of Jeff's posts. I think it's a few shades darker and more vibrant blue than Guardsman Blue, but not as dark as the Royal Blue or Viper Blue. My bodyshop already ordered the sample pint of Guardsman Blue and Toyota Speedway Blue, but I want to see it on Cobra.

This blue in the picture is what I am after. Obviously, this picture is Guardsman Blue, but I keep hearing that Guardsman Blue is slightly dull and not as intense as in the picture. The color was probably digitally enhanced... That is why I'm thinking Toyota Speedway Blue is closer match to the blues in this picture...

Here's one I did in Toyota Speedway Blue:

And another in first generation Viper Blue:

A couple of others you might want to take a look at are Ford Bright Atlantic Blue (K7, M6863A) and Chrysler/Jeep Hydro Blue (PBJ). You're right, Guardsman is a great color on these cars but it is a very simple old style formula with only 2 metals in the mix and it doesn't have the same "flash" or "pop" as the modern colors that have faceted &/or colored metals, lots of pearl or mica and more sophisticated toners.

Once you narrow it down to a couple of finalists get your painter to do same spray outs for you because photos and computer images or even manufacturer color chips won't show you the real deal.

Good luck!

Jeff

Thank you for confirming! Toyota Speedway Blue looks pretty good! I've been looking at a bunch of Speedway Blue Tacoma truck pictures online, but seeing it on Cobra body makes it even better. I'll take a look at Ford Bright Atlantic Blue (K7, M6863A) and Chrysler/Jeep Hydro Blue (PBJ) as well!

Thanks again!

I know it is some work if you live in a small town but way back when we were deciding on color I went to dealers to look at actual cars. We also looked at cars as we were driving. W/ a quick cell phone pic compared to model pics on the web you can usually narrow down make, model, and year and then find the code.

You are totally right! I was driving around and already found the Jeep hydro blue that Jeff recommended. Looked good. But I thought the pearls were slightly too coarse/large. I think I like smaller pearls.
