Last Sunday we were accepted into a pop-up car show sponsored by http://www.eyesondesign.org/ at the Edsel Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. It included a brief drive around the grounds with a couple stops in front of the main house for pictures by professional photographers. Also some cruising up and down Lake Shore Road with its beautiful views of Lake St. Clair. There were 250 cars and professional judges from the automotive industry. I found out a couple days later our Coupe was selected as one of the “sweet sixteen” best cars. Cool! Now there are several rounds of voting by the public. The two top cars will be invited to their EYESON DESIGN AUTOMOTIVE DESIGN EXHIBITION next year. An extremely high end show that’s a premier national event. Wouldn’t it be cool for the Coupe to make an appearance there? They’re giving a lifetime achievement award to Peter Brock next year. Although it’s not clear to me he will be at the actual show.

They’re using Facebook to conduct the voting. Their page is here: https://www.facebook.com/eodevents. The voting has started here: https://www.facebook.com/eodevents/app/164167473601477/?app_data=%7B%22from%22%3A%22page_wall%22%7D. I’ll update this thread when the Coupe comes up. Will welcome all the support possible!

Here are the pictures they took of us. They’re all amazing. But the one with it moving and the blurred background I especially like. That road is along an inlet by the property, appropriately called Ford Cove, and numbers of boats were lined up watching the cars drive by. You can see the shape of one right behind the Coupe. It’s a great shot.

Thanks Scott! Yeah, they're doing two at a time. As I understand, about one day for each pair. I don't know when the Coupe will come up. I'll be watching and post when it is. Will take several rounds if it goes through.

Great photos, Paul! I, too, like the motion shot the best. I wonder if the Chicago approach will work (vote early and often...)?

Here we go. The Coupe is paired off against a 63 split window Vette. Tough competition! Vote for the car of choice by liking the appropriate picture here: https://www.facebook.com/eodevents/

I do love those C2 Corvettes, but it's almost not fair how much better your Coupe looks in that shot! :D Good luck the rest of the way!

Paul-

You were up against my other all time favorite car; man that's not fair!!

I got you though. I see you are moving on to the next round, which is hardly a surprise! Keep us updated on when you are up again.

Regards,

Steve

Our Coupe is in round 2 of the voting posted about last week. Had great support for the first round. Let's see what happens this time. Pitted against one of the highest vote getters in the round of 16. Vote by liking the picture of your choice by noon tomorrow. Hopefully the Coupe. ;)

Made it through. In the final four! Fewer votes than the first round. But the Cadillac was a strong competitor. Thanks everyone for your support. One more win and we're in the big Concours show next year. Stay tuned.

Down to the final four! Winner in this round gets invited to the big Concours event next year. A huge honor! The Coupe is pitted against the 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV. Most likes wins. Let's get if over the finish line! This link goes directly to the picture to like. Thanks for your support this far. https://www.facebook.com/eodevents/photos/pcb.3538621262827498/3538609812828643

You just got my vote, Paul. You have a good lead (163 to 112) on the Alfa right now!

This is killing me. I want to support forum members, so I go to the link Paul provided and it says I have to log in to facebook in order to cast my "like" vote. Truth be told, I spend as little time as possible on facebook. As in, none. In fact, I haven't signed on to facebook in several years. So, I go to sign on and I know that my account was originally set up using an email address that no longer exists. I mean the domain is toast. Facebook wants to send a code to my old email. Good luck with that, folks.

The simple solution seems to be just sign up with a new account. Easy, right? Well, I can't get past the name part. It says "our name policy is that you use the name your friends use" or something to that effect. Regardless of what I enter, it doesn't like it. Sorry, facebook, that's my name! So, I can't log on, I can't create a new account, so I can't vote.

Bottom line: if someone else would cast a vote for me, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks for your efforts. Much appreciated. If you're not a regular Facebook user, which I understand many aren't and probably for good reasons, then voting in this contest is going to be tough. Again though, thanks.

Last post. Final votes needed for the win! They're saying now that only one car goes to the big Concours event. Which is different than I understood from before. Makes every vote important and right now and it's neck and neck with the '35 Chevy truck. Surprised it made it this far, but it's obviously very popular. The Coupe received over 300 votes over the Alfa. Might need that many and more for this final round. Thanks everyone for your support!

OK, not the last post. Just did some more digging... yes only the winner of this contest goes to the big show. Somewhere I got the idea it was the two finalists. But that's definitely not the case. The spring winner was a Plymouth Superbird. The Coupe would be a good companion! The voting so far has been almost exactly split 50/50. Need everyone to jump on board and push this over the top. Scroll down on this page to 2021 events and you can see the show the winner would be invited to. Check out the chairman and grand marshall. Peter Brock is being honored by this organization as well next year. But not part of the show as far as I know. http://www.eyesondesign.org/carshow.

Your vote matters! Sorry for the shameless promotion on this... I just think it would be really cool. Personally and for our hobby.

Well, it was a good run. It was close, and the Coupe was ahead for first place up until the last 90 minutes of voting. Then a surge of votes kicked in for the truck and that was it. The competitive side of me is disappointed. But I’m pleased and somewhat surprised how far we made it. No question some “anti-replica” forces were at work there. But that’s OK. I just couldn’t quite come up the cash to show an original Coupe. Many thanks to everyone who jumped on board and supported. Much appreciated!

On a separate but related note, this past Saturday our club had our annual fall color cruise. Little over 150 miles with my bride in the Coupe from home, to the event, and back home again around the Road & Track course (public streets...) in SE Michigan. Lots of curves, hills, and gorgeous scenery. Beautiful day and fall colors are just getting started. The Coupe now has 1,700 miles and change. Absolutely a blast to drive. Love it. Not bad either with a top, heater, and a morning that started in the 30's. Try any of that with that truck. :p

Paul,

I have to say I was also a bit disappointed to see the final count. If anyone in the community is capable to helping to lift the replica car hobby/industry to the highest levels of competition, it's you. I was a bit offended by some of the anti-replica comments. You were invited based on your workmanship and attention to detail, just like all the others. Whether it's a restoration or a new kit build, it takes the same skills to put it all together and make it look better than other examples of the same vehicle.

Thanks for everything you have done and continue to do for our hobby!

Dave
