Hey Dave,

How about one of these for a headache free F10? No carbon fiber, no offshore manufacturing partners, no tracks or wind tunnels (all done decades ago).

I've been telling him for 10 years they need to stretch the 33 chassis enough for a small "kid sized" back seat. Over the years I've heard from a bunch of people who either want to be able to take their young kids or grandkids along. Now that he has acquired the Rat's Glass bodies I think the 33 chassis could be somewhat easily reconfigured to make it economically viable. ;)

Yep, I made a pitch for the Vickey to Dave at SEMA, after he announced the Rat Rod deal. Dave wasn’t interested but he had the carbon fiber hyper car targeted. Hopefully after the haze of new car development fades, FFR will look fondly at the old “mold it and ship it” low cost of development marketing model.

I really wasn’t serious with the post but when I saw that original steel Ford parked next to my car I couldn’t resist.

More like a stretched and rear-modded '33 unless all you want behind the driver is a shelf and limited legroom.

Speaking of legroom, can you image how much one of those could have??

Hey Dave! have you been in a Gen2 Hot Rod? I drove the factory Gen2 (the blue one with the tan soft top and red wheels) and could barely reach the pedals---kind of like when I drove your rental car back to the hotel during Open House a few years ago :). I think you'd fit!

This. I think there are a lot of us that have built great FFR products in our past, who would like to do it again, but our wants and needs have evolved. We have variously grown up, gotten older, acquired families, matured, etc., and with that comes a different set of priorities. I don't really care for all the variations on the '33 -- nothing wrong with them, the hot rod thing just hasn't ever been my personal cup of tea -- but I would really like to see some kind of an FFR project that is more geared toward the "daily driver" or "wife / family friendly" option. (Who ever thought I'd be dropping off kids at school?!? Life happens...) I'd love to get in a car each morning that has a little more style and performance and "uniqueness" than all the toaster appliances for sale on dealer lots anymore -- but still have the ability to throw my briefcase and a suitcase in the back, or take the kiddo to school, etc. Your focus was on the back seat idea, and that's legit -- but for me, it's a broader issue of desiring a car that's livable for someone other than me. That comes down to available space, weather resistance, noise levels, creature comforts, etc. A lot of it we can control as builders, but you've got to have the right baseline to start with. No matter what Ralph Button's odometer may say, a Cobra is never going to be a carpool vehicle or work commuter for 99.99% of the population.

I've even kicked around the F9 idea as being at the extreme edge of a possible daily driver, because it's at least enclosed and has glass -- it can be climate controlled here in Texas, where that matters. No back seat, and that's okay by me -- it doesn't have to be my only car. I'm sure the interior will be pretty spartan and/or race-oriented, but that wouldn't be too hard to customize and soften a bit. Mostly, I just like the idea that if it decides to rain, or it suddenly gets cold or hot outside, I don't have to plan my round-trip commute based on the local forecaster's daily hope-and-a-prayer.

Being able to take a weekend trip with the wife would be awesome, and even if I could guarantee perfect weather and un-mussed hair, she isn't ever going to do that in my Roadster. Heck, I've known her nearly a decade, and I bet she hasn't been out with me in that car five times. Seriously. Her total disinterest in the car steals a lot of the fun of driving it for me. The result is that it gets no use at all. I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I can't remember the last time I pulled it out of the shop. I bet in the last three years I haven't driven it more than once or twice besides for its annual safety inspections. Admitting that makes a guy ask hard questions, like, "Why do I even keep this thing?" We all have our answers to that, and it's another discussion. I think I speak for many of us in saying that we'd all like something that we could or would use a lot more often, and a major piece of that is bringing others along to enjoy the ride.

Man...I've barely ever posted on this forum at all, and I haven't been to the "old forum" in years. Feels weird to be back, but I read your post and that's what I wanted to say about that!

Taking the kids along is why my Chevy pickup has an extended cab. they climb into the back and I can drag them around town with me legal with seat belts. I can barely fit back there but they fit just fine for the short around town drives. I've never thought about a 4 passenger Hot Rod but it would distract me from the Roadster I've wanted from before I had a family.
