I just updated my build thread on the locking floor mat clips I installed this morning, but I thought it may be useful to post as a separate thread in case anyone is looking to install these. The set I bought on Amazon was only $10 and installation is very easy if you have a 25mm punch to make clean holes in the mats.

Looks good, how do they work to remove the mat?

I have the same locks -- awesome product and work perfectly to keep the mats in their place. I don't have a punch, but used an old socket heated with the torch to make perfect holes in the mats.

The locks are mounted to the carpet and the mat lays over them with the locks coming up through the rings you install in the mat. Simply twist the lock 90 degrees to attach the mat to the lock and the same to release them.

I just ordered a set too. The punch tool is $15. Can it be done with scissors or something else? I'll spend the $15 if I have to...

I read Papa's method of heating a socket. I don't have a torch. Will a heat gun get it hot enough?

I don't think a heat gun would do it. All you need is a small propane cylinder torch. This method also keeps the edges from fraying. The torch head and canister is about the same cost as the punch, but has more than one use!

I used a socket with the correct OD, set the mat on a 2x4 and hammered the socket through, no heat.

I bought and used those same clips for my Coupe. Easy installation and work great. I cut the holes in my floor mats with an X-Acto knife after tracing on the back side with a fine tip felt marker. Wasn't hard and the edges are completely enclosed by the top and bottom of the receptacle. A punch or using heat would have been nice. But I sure wouldn't buy something if you have a sharp blade. You'll also want to trim the little nibs off the back of your floor mat where the two pieces go together so they fit tight.

Interesting that Dave gets a torch, Ducky gets a big hammer, and Paul gets an X-Acto knife to do the same thing. Really says something about individual personalities

Hey Papa, I saw your pictures in the Amazon review and also the suggestion to use a heated socket, and that’s what I did. Thank you so much for that!

What's involved in mounting the anchors to the carpet?

Sliding the locking clip (metal pin) into the carpet ... done!

One thing to consider is the forward part of the mat moving with your feet. I put anchors at the back of the dropped area and have no problem.
