The body is ready for paint and my garage spray booth prep is almost complete. I have decided on colors and I am committed. I am going with 3 colors which is a bit atypical, but my speedshape looks great in a high gloss with solid colors. The only thing I haven't committed to is the rear. When there are 2 colors, the choice is easy. Body color on the right and stripe color on the left, generally. When there is a prominent outside stripe it gets a little muddy. I am not 100% keen on my stripe color(red) being the left part of the rear, but it would work. It isn't terrible, just more jarring than I was hoping for. The original Daytona rear color scheme is somewhat flamboyant I will grant you. Numbers and gumballs would bridge the gaps in color contrast, but that is a little more work than I am wanting. FWIW the blue is less violet and less saturated than it appears in the picture.. It has a smidge of green to it.
Looking for some input from those who know.

That Color Pallet Is Kicking!
Made me think of a car from the Old Trans Am Series!
Here's a tribute clone of the Mark Donohue car.

That’s a sweet livery. My daughter suggested white with red. I hadn’t thought of that combination on the rear.

My vote is for the 3rd pic with the white cove. Not only is it more period correct but also more contrasting. Don't really care for the white outline of the cove area personally.
Mine only has the accent stripes on the outside.

My $0.02 I'm sure what ever you choose you are going to be happy with and in the end that is all that matters!!

I agree with John on all points. I think the tail looks best with white to the left, body color to the right.

Have to agree Jeff’s selection will rock! Really like the three colours.
Reminds me of an AMC. I dig it!

Thanks for the feedback! I have a friend who is a graphic designer. He did a great job mocking up the schemes. Here are 2 examples with numbers and gumballs. I think they both look great. Starting to think about a number now to break up the real estate on the rear. He also suggested that I go a little thinner on the white stripe. I am planning on a 1/2" outer and inner white stripe with a 1" middle blue stripe and 7" red stripe. all stripes tapered at front and rear OnlineCobra.com diagram. The front view is working within the existing stripes in the picture. My stripe proportion will be wider.

At first I was on team White-Tail, but now that I see it on the car, I think I might be a new fan of team Red-Tail...

I am warming up to red also. I need to figure out what painters use for numbers and gumballs. I wonder if I can use vinyl race numbers or if there is something more specific to get clean lines while avoiding ridges. I also like the look of a gumball on the hood with the stripe pausing before it meets the gumball. I can't figure out how that is masked unless they actually cut the stripe masks in a perfect curve.

Get with a vinyl cutter or sign shop and have them cut your circles from masking vinyl...very important to be sure that they know they are for masking...the material is different. I spray stripe color first and put the roundel is in place. I then just lay 1/4" tape edge to edge along the outer diameter of the circle which serves as a "spacer". Lay the tape for the stripes edge to edge up to that. Once they are fully laid out pull the "spacer" tape and it leaves a consistent gap between the roundel/meatball/gumball (whatever you want to call it :p ) and your stripe. You can then put down your main color. Make sense?

Thanks for the input Jeff. Once you mask the stripes over the rounded and spacer, do you take a blade and cut the stripe mask where it meets the 1/4” spacer mask?

My test panel came out pretty good. I had the obligatory gnat on my clearcoat to deal with and got some lessons in how to get the clear to flow. The panel has very little orange peel in the center and way too much everywhere else. It helped to slow down and lay it on thick. The garage is not closed in currently, but will be properly sealed with Visqueen and filters by gametime. I should be able to paint within the next 7 days. Nervous, but excited.

Maybe you should turn it into the union jack and call it the Shagtona!!

Just kidding, what is the verdict on the cove color?

A little too subtle for me. :)
I am going with option 2 in the original post. Red on left and blue on right with no borders. I will also paint a number. Here are the 2 that I am thinking of:

135443
The cove number won't have a circle around it.
