After almost 4 years of building we finally took the roadster out for our first street legal ride. We buckled in; hit the start button and after a short warm-up period we were off and headed toward the highway. I pulled out and went through the gears until we got to 4th. I took it easy, but noticed the stock 302 has plenty of power compared to our daily rides. It cruised very easy in 4th, ran smooth and was relatively quiet. We didn’t have any squeaks or rattles. The ride was solid and controlled. The manual steering and brakes require more effort than I’m used to but it’s totally doable. I drove it about 50 miles this past weekend and am very impressed with the design and engineering that went into my complete kit. The choices that Factory Five made work very well together. It drives like a regular car, but with more attitude. We got smiles and thumbs up from most everyone we passed. I think they enjoyed seeing the car almost as much as we did riding in it. On Sunday I went onto the interstate to calibrate the speedometer. Just before I hit the 2 mile marker I noticed a car entering the highway was going to be merging into my lane almost right were I would be. Since I wanted to stay in front of him I hit the gas and was treated to a roar from the pipes and instant acceleration. Beating him to the merge point wasn’t a problem. I think the pipes also warned everyone I was there. I got off the interstate at the next exit with a calibrated speedometer and every intention of going home since my mission was accomplished. As I got close to the house I pulled into the left lane hit the gas and kept going. I just couldn’t stop.
