I read in another thread the other day that someone left out the side pipes when they placed their complete kit order with FF and that they "received a credit" but with no specific amount. I'm wondering if there's actual value in this strategy for upgrades? The Gas-N pipes are a great example but not the only one. While I don't expect upgrades to pay for themselves, I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me if this is worth asking about? Any chance anyone has a list of these "leave out" options?
I'm not trying to build a car on the really cheap end, but I'm trying to get a good bang for the buck and spend the money in the right places.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I honestly didn't know how to search for this topic on the forums.

I did delete a few things from my complete MK4 kit order, including the seats and sidepipes. I had already decided to order Gas-N sidepipes and Cobra Clubman seats. While I was disappointed that the credit I received wasn’t more, when I factored in the saved hassle factor of storing, finding buyers for those items and shipping them it was the right decision for me.

An example from my order was that I deleted the J pipes. FF retail for those are $199, credit I received was $70

I also deleted a few items from my order that I wasn't planning to use in my build, including the side pipes.

I can't really say if the credit approach is worth it since I took all the parts that came with the kit. I did use the FFR raw steel pipes all the way up until the end of my build where i then swapped out to the GAS-N pipes. I was able to sell the used FFR pipes and ship them in the GAS-N packaging to another forum member. The J-Pipes I got are still new in the box, quick jacks still in the box, and I haven't found a new home for those yet. I suspect my asking price isn't where it needs to be. The point I wanted to make is that there are plenty of builders that will take those extra parts off your hands at the right price. You generally won't get too much for the parts, but maybe about the same as the credit in most cases. For things like the pipes, I got more use out of them and they served their purpose, saving my shiny GAS-N pipes from the abuse of the build process.

Now, if FFR would stop shipping hood pin kits, power steering pullies, air filters, oil filter relocation kits, two foot box front aluminum panels, donor kit pedal set parts, etc. as standard parts in the complete kit, they would save a lot of money.

I sold everything I did not use here on the forum with little effort. Pretty much plan on selling at 1/2 FFR listed price which is probably more than the credit you will get.

I figure I would much rather give a builder in need a nice break than take a credit from FFR.

And that's the correct answer. I've built complete kits for owners who went with other components than what is included and we sold the parts such as steering racks, brakes, pipes, etc. through the forums for more than the credit offered.

Thank you all for the insight. It's the answer I thought I'd hear but i wanted to check with the experts!
