I have been dreaming about building one of these since I was a kid. But back in 2005 I met a guy that built a Factory Five from a donor Mustang. He was very helpful and let me drive his car. Even with the 235 HP 5.0 and the nasty burn I got on my leg from the side pipe. I was hooked. Been bugging my wife ever since.

Well 15 years later I finally ordered my roadster kit. I have restored several old cars but trust me I will need all of your help to make sure I get this right the first time. My wife says this is the last toy I am allowed to have.
My kit is expected to be completed on 11/7 and hopefully be picked up by Stewart shortly after.

Complete Kit
Powder Coated Chasssis
302 headers and mounts
Hydraulic Clutch
Body cut outs
Vinyl Seats
Power Steering
GPS Vintage Gauge Set
15" Halibrand Wheels
Wiper Kit
Vinyl Dash with Glovebox
Heater Kit
Moser 8.8 3 Link Setup
Sway Bar
Bumper and Hoop Kit
Wind Wings
Sun Visors
Chrome Roll Bar
Center Dash Support

I ordered a Blueprint 347 complete turnkey engine with TK600. I went with the EFI option.

Additions
Power Brakes
Herb's Door Panels
Breeze Cubby
Drop Trunk Mod
Some heat shields because I like the skin on my legs:D

Thanks all I will share all photos as I move forward on this awesome adventure.

I need to get my garage clean and organized.

And if you are planning to have someone else paint your car, you may want to contact them and get on their waiting list, some of them are near 2 years out. Carl

Awesome congrats! Make sure to have the conversation early with the fedex and ups guys that all car parts should be placed in the secret hollow rock behind the garage and preferably delivered when it’s dark out.

Hey tmlint. I am using Stewart. I had problem getting a quote from them due to an issue with their webpage. If you don't hear back from them go to their FB page. They responded immediately. I am on their shipping list as of last week. I live in Alabama so they might be on the same truck dropping off for you and swinging south. I am SOOOOOOOO freaking excited!

Congrats and Welcome! I am going to be watching as I am considering a swap out to the 347/TKO600 package you are planning and am interested to hear how installation and performance goes! Not sure if you are planning power steering, but if not I would. I don't have it on mine and am seriously thinking of adding it. If you have never had manual steering then you are going to want to start working out the upper body! I would reconsider the power brakes as well. I have manual from a stock 89 mustang and they are fine for street driving, but I would not autocross with it. I think that you will hear many for power brakes and many say they are not necessary, but in the end your call and I will leave it up to the more experienced builders to weigh in on that one. In any case, you are about to embark on a journey that has the most bang for the buck at the end!

I thought the exact same thing! "2 months!! That's gonna drag."
How it actually went? Like a blur, between getting the garage ready, building the dolly,
buck & keeping up with regular house maintenance/chores I felt as though I ran out of time
and it was here.
Congratulations & Enjoy every moment!
Mine puts a smile on my face every time I step in the garage, working on it or not.

Still cleaning and organizing. I will begin building the body buck and chassis dolly starting next week. I purchased a pneumatic rivet gun, a bunch of clecos, and about 20 1/8 drill bits to stock up on the tools I will need.

Thanks! I sent him a PM.

I'm in Dublin OH and am on JKleiner's waitlist. he's in Bloomington, IN and books out about 12-18mo in advance.
he wants to do all the body work and final fitment, which is something not all painters will do. It seems like there are a handful of guys (jeff kleiner in Bloomington, jeff miller in CA, ken pike in CA I believe, etc) who have done hundreds of these and understand the nuances of these cars and how to best get them to look right. lots of good body/paint threads out there as well if you want to do some of the stuff on your own.

Congrats, my car is almost a carbon copy of yours except I went with the carb instead of fuel injection. I'm just old school and I hope it doesn't come back to bite me. Were you able to go to Factory Five and get the tour. I went there the last week of may and picked my car up August 18th. I was so impressed with everything they do, and so far the car has been a joy to build. Back ordered parts not so much but I guess Covid has something to do with that. Enjoy your build and take advantage of the talent that is on this forum. There are some very talented people willing to share their knowledge.

Hey BadAsp427, how would one go about getting on one of these waiting lists for body and paint?

So sorry, I did not see your question here. I see however that many have answered it all ready. It is only a matter of deciding when and who. As has been stated, Jeff K in Indiana, Jeff Miller in SoCal and there are many others you will read about in the forums. I chose Jeff K because he is very active here on the forums and on Facebook and he returns your car to you the way you gave it to him... but much prettier... In other words, I took my car to him completely assembled, with 10,000 miles on it and he does all he needs to disassemble and reassemble it with the all the paint and body work complete.

I am going power steering too. In my fj40 rock crawler I did a power steering conversion and I just love it. 33x12.50 will not turn without it. Power steering is a must.

You just wait till that kit shows up!!!!

My advice for you:

1. take the duct tape off the body immediately - if you wait like I did it will become dry, crusty, and gooey
2 take a zillion pictures of the body panels and how they overlap
3. get a set of REAL jack stand pads - rags won't work well
4. put a LOT of painter's tape over the round tubes, you'll step on them more than you will imagine during the build
5. if you yell, curse, or throw a wrench across the room - STOP and get back to the car another day

Put a sheet of plywood under the center brace. Fair amount of storage space exists under the body while on the buck.

It will feel a little overwhelming, but extremely exhilarating when that truck shows up.

> Just remember to do a detailed inventory and make a copy of the inventory log and attach the individual sheets to each box as you complete the checking-in of parts.
> By having your original hard copy with a corresponding copy attached to each box you'll be better able to locate the parts you need during the assembly process.
> The cool thing about doing the detailed inventory in this manner is that you'll become very familiar with the parts.
> It will also allow you to determine what parts are on backorder too.

Good Luck & Congratulations Because Today Truly Is Black Friday!

So, how's the inventory going? Make sure you count every bolt/washer/screw/nut/etc., and go through the trash to make sure nothing gets misplaced. Also, save the paper, it'll come in handy for various masking efforts.
