I just got my mk 4 lid from factory five and it's a bit oversized, I was planning on using an electric sander but that is going to take forever, what is the suggestion to knock it down faster?

Also there is some separation on the edges, is that something I can fix and if so what should I use?

And lastly, I'm using the breeze hidden hinges, is there a good thread that details how to modify them to work with the mk 4 trunk?

Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck,

You can likely fill it with Fibertech; however, I'd contact Factory Five because you paid for a trunk that should be free of defects like this.
Also, I did my initial gapping using a belt sander and then did the rest by hand.
They are great about making things right as you well know.

I'm doing a trunk lid also. My painter told me he grinds it with an angle grinder to a rough fit and then block sands it. FYI, he also takes the side gap from the right side to help the stripes align with the license plate light.

You might want to check out Factory 5's bodywork videos. Thay have one for fitting the trunk lid.

Angle grinder, 6in grinder or my favorite(for use by professionals) 9in grinder with soft pad and 36gr disk. Tape where you want to grind to and finish with a block. Nothing wrong with your part. We fill the edge voids all the time. Body filler works just fine...da Bat

Slightly different than my esteemed colleague Miller...I scribe a line then take it down with a 36 grit flap disc on the angle grinder (not for the faint of heart)

After the initial cut I clean them up with 80 on a DA and finish up with a block after filling the voids which are common on trunk lids, doors and hoods due to the bonding of the inner and outer layers. Pack them with Rage Gold.

Personally rather than trying to make the Breeze hinges work on the Mk4 lid I think I'd go the other direction and use the Mk4 hinges and simply add the pivot for them to the trunk hoop---it could be a bolt on or welded.

Thanks everybody, I'll take a look at the video. I'm looking for something that is faster than what I'm doing now but not so fast that it gets away from me. I'll try out the grinder, maybe with a finer grit.

(not for the faint of heart)

I'm definitely faint of heart when it comes to grinding on the body, that's why I'm having you do the paint! :)

Doh! I'll reach out to factory five and see if they sell the trunk hinges.

Ok, I've got the mk4 hinges on order and I started grinding down the trunk.

When I weld in these tabs on the 3/4" hoop, does anyone have a measurement of how far from the side frame they go? I'm also wondering if they are at an angle or straight up and down.

Thanks,
Chuck
