I understand the spout connector on the EEC IV connects the distributor to the computer for computer control of timing. You remove the spout connector when setting initial timing to eliminate computer control during the timing operation.

I've seen lots of videos that show some removing the spout connector while the engine is running and some say turn the engine off when removing or replacing the connector.

Which is correct, remove/replace with engine running or engine off?

Engine off by what i have read on doing mine.

My thought is engine on, the computer may have already made adjustments that will not go away with unplugging the SPOUT.

Do not forget to reinstall it. In my case the engine got HOT just ideling after i reinstalled it but one connector wire pushed out the back of the connector! That involved a bit of frustration hunting down what was going on!
