This image was posted in the snake bite thread.

Anybody ever had a look at this car? (the car, not the leg you pervs, lol )

What's up with the scoop on the rear fender + the vents in the trunk lid and around the tail light?

Differential cooler? - I think Shelby American required them for races exceeding 2 hours.

Also note the non standard roll bar?

Could be for diff or brakes. I see a bunch of screen sections around the tail light and in the trunk lids which I guess are for air extraction.

It doesn't make since to me, those ducts/vents indicate track use yet who would race with those mirrors and roll bar?

Not to mention the Radial T/A's...

I know you're all too young, but the 60's and 70's were a different time. The safety police were not around then.
My new car in high school didn't have seat belts.
Also could be just for show similar to jacked up 4 x 4 that never go offroad.

That's obviously an old photo. The BFG "Radial T/A 50" tire hasn't been produced since the 1980s. My guess is that it is originally a street car that saw some track use; i.e. overriders rather than quick jacks, the odd 2 legged roll bar. As Craig said the crudely cut and meshed areas were probably for air extraction and I'd bet that the scoop over the rear wheel was ducted to the brakes (probably have a matching one on the other side).

T/A 50 was a long time ago, the tires look a lot different today. Probably the legs too.

There's a VW Thing in the far background too, and an early 1970s Ford Van.

Didn't notice those at first glance.

Wow, you guys are true Cobra nerds -- I can't get past closely examining the passenger, no way I could even concentrate on what kind of tires or postulate on vents & screens. I don't even remember what color the car was.

Naz,

B&W photo, the car is grey, the leg is lovely. And the guy with the hand out to help has a great view.

I'm old but not dead.

It took me a while to see anything mechanical. Thats a great photo.

You can tell it’s 70’s by the heal on that guy’s boot.

I seen the ford van in the background, but all I can hear is
Chevy van going over and over in my brain.

Would be a shame if that leg touched that side pipe!

This is true.

The dude's foot on the right side of the picture we can clearly see a platform shoe/boot so it was obviously the mid-1970's.
Also, the VW Thing was imported into the United States in 1973 & 1974, maybe as late as 1975.
My brother 6'4" looked like Lurch (6'8" With Platforms) during that same time period.

On some of the Daytona Coupes there is a similar meshed vent at the back under the license plate on the right side of the car. Some books on the Coupes mention a cooler. It may be that the pump failure on the cooler led to the famous pit fire when the diff overheated boiled over and caught fire. Looking at one in Las Vegas there was a cooler behind the screen. A picture of a dash may show a switch as the cooler pump was electrical. A good reason for the scoop and vents on the pictured Cobra would be to keep her bottom cool.

Everyone in the 60s and early 70s.

The girl is probably bailing out because she realized the car had T/As on it. Those are some smokin' hot legs.

I like seeing all of the endless variations on Cobras. Then I really chuckle when someone points out something that is "wrong" or the "incorrect part" on a replica. I had a guy tell my wife that my MKIV fenders weren't correct. Probably the single most variable part of a Cobra.

Okay, I get it, people did any and everything. But my point was who would go to the effort to install those vents for dif or brake cooling and then not touch the mirrors and use an essentially useless roll bar? Seems goofy to me.
