View Full Version : Gen 2 Body to Gen 2 Frame Fitment (nothing fits)

Just started fitting my Gen 2 body to the Gen 2 frame.

I am finding a few areas that don't fit.

1) Common issue - trimming of body near firewall. Slowly trimming away excess material not a big problem
2) Front lower is not fitting under the frame rail. I think cleaning up the welds on the bottom of the frame and polishing up the top edge of the aluminum, this should fit. I only am off a few mm.
3) Rear interior (waterfall area) hitting the fuel pick up tube. Fuel pick up cannot be rotated (tried it) as the pick up is L shaped. it hits the front and rear of tank. If rotated to the drivers side it hits an internal baffle. If i raise the body to just clear it I am off by about 10 mm on the passengers side rear lower frame.

Has anyone had a similar experience or advice?

Thanks in advance

All normal things to adjust or make fit. See post 67 about fuel tank.

Are you sure you can't rotate the pickup a little? Mine looked exactly like yours. I could rotate enough before hitting the interior of the tank - see pics below

Re you number 2... perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but I'm setting my body up with the 'glass lip level with the chassis, not under it. In fact I'm cutting out a little 'v' to give some clearance there..

ok...i think i see what you did. rotate 45 degrees and drilled new hole pattern. Great idea. thanks.

i assumed it was meant to go under the chassis.

You must have had to shim the rocker panels. is that correct?

Although gen 2 is a little better fit, do not assume that the body is symmetrical side to side. This means that the bottom of the body on one side can be at a different height on the frame than the other. You're looking to get good fit at the firewall, the right dimension from the dash to the rear of the passenger compartment, the front cowl and rear deck level, etc.... On gen1, it was common knowledge that you had to put shims between the door sill and the chassis and it was different from side to side.

Don't put too much stock in my situation - I have new Gen2 body, but on Gen1 chassis. But some things are the same.

In my case, I got everything pretty close to where it should be, and no shims yet.. but until I'm done I won't know for sure. But today it's level with chassis both sides and front-to-back. And sitting flush on top of chassis.
