I'm a couple years away from getting my kit. but that's not stopping me from collecting and prepping things like engine, trans and rear end. some time next week I'll be getting a 351 Windsor out of a pickup that's getting junked. when the time comes to title my MK4 will I need to show proof of where that engine came from? Since my buddy that is junking the truck will surrender it's title at the salvage yard, what do I need?
thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions!
Ralph

Yes, you have to show proof of ownership of the engine. Right out of the Michigan assembled vehicle instructions:

"The following parts must be accounted for in the ownership documents presented: Motor vehicles: Engine, transmission, body parts (doors, front and rear clips) and frame, including axles."

Ownership documents listed include titles, assigned ownership documents, and bills of sale.

From instructions here: https://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,4670,7-127-96435_1587_1588-25476--,00.html.

I've done four assembled vehicle titles in Michigan but not with your specific circumstance. I'd suggest calling your local SOS office. They may have you call Lansing.

Edwardb Thanks for that information, and the link!
I’ll be contacting SOS Monday morning!

I’ll be contacting Michigan SOS IN the morning, as Edwardb suggests! Still I’m wondering if someone else has been down this road? Will a bill of sale from the salvage yard suffice as proof of ownership for this engine?
I’m just looking for as much information as I can get!
