Maybe a dumb question, but is there a trick to getting the headlight switch yoke to stay in? Every time I think I have it locked in there, I pull out on the yoke and it comes off in my hands and random times. It seems to work for a while, then boom, it comes out. I notice there is a little button on a spring on the inside which I assume is the lock, but it doesn't seem to be engaging. Just wondering if there is a trick I'm missing. Thanks!

I have a replacement AC Delco switch if you are interested (more robust model). Getting ready for a garage sale. Have to look at $ but dont think it was much.

The button is to remove it. Once installed, pull out to the headlights on stop, push the button, and will come the rest of the way out and loose. It should lock in place when pushed in. They can be a little finicky and not locking is an issue some have reported. I too have had good luck with the genuine AC Delco version versus the reproduction part Factory Five supplies.

Thanks everyone— so it seems like there is no "trick", mine must be defective. Sounds like I'll go grab an AC Delco version.

Is the knob bottoming out before the shaft can lock in?

Ron Francis has this tutorial on their website. It's the same AC Deco-style switch, so may be helpful. They specifically address the shaft not locking in place, and what to do about it. Hopefully this is your issue.
