Good morning everyone,
Time for another episode of stupid questions with H3Towel. When I apply the parking brake, they work just fine. The problem is when I disengage them. The passenger side doesn't fully return. I called F5 yesterday and was told to cycle the parking brake up to 100 times. After doing this, it didn't resolve anything. I have also added an additional spring to help, and have made sure my lines are run correctly with no sharp angles that could interfere with the cable running through the sheath with no effect. When I use a flat blade screwdriver, I can get it to fully release with no effort.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had the same issue with Mk4, IRS and Wilwood brakes. I've gotten some more effectiveness on release by using the spring, but you have to be careful with the length of the spring as it will limit the activation of the hill brake if it's too long. The main problem with mine currently is that it won't hold the car on a hill.

There are mods to help with this and I plan to do one soon, but I'm starting to think that the most effective solution might be oiling the inside of the brake cable by removing it, hanging it vertically and letting oil drip through it for a day or two. This helped with my manual clutch cable.

Do you have the standard brakes? I had this happen, fought for awhile, then just bought new ones from rock auto, they’re like $40 after the core return.

My driver’s side had the same issue. With mine the brake was the issue not the cable. I would rotate the brake lever with a screw driver over and over, it got a little better but would still hang up. Placing the spring as shown below fixed my problem. Picture is from phileas_fogg posted to CV2065 on 12/10/2018

Disconnect the cable from the brake and handle and slide it back and forth inside the housing by hand. It should slide back and forth with very little resistance. If it feels like it's binding at all then that needs to be addressed. It's a new cable, so it shouldn't need oil to slide smoothly at this point. Oil may help, but it will also attract dirt and grime and eventually gum up the cable down the road, so you may want to look at bicycle chain lubes that are paraffin or PTFE-based with a solvent carrier that evaporates so they don't stay wet. If the cable slides smoothly, then the problem is with the brake itself.
