Many of you get tired of me talking about how much I Love Our Louisiana Culture, but today isn't one of them.
Yesterday we moved Redbone 30 miles up the road to my brother's place along with most of the stuff in my garage.
With two storms headed our way, we won't be taking any chances so our three boats are being moved as well.
Three boats you might ask, Deep-V Lake, Bass and a Jon boat because you can never have too many boats.
Man, I need to move to higher ground, so that is the focus of our next project.
Take Care Gang, Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler & Swim Forest, Swim!

Steve,
Looks like Marco and Laura are prepping for a 1-2 punch for LA. And it looks like we along the Texas coast may get some of Marco too.
Stay safe and dry!

Stay safe, Steve. Hope you guys can ride it out without any problems...
Moving to higher ground - or north - is an excellent idea. We in Illinois would welcome you to our state! (by the time Hurricanes get here, they're usually pretty well spent. But, you might have to deal with a tornado or two...)

Best of luck hope you do as well as we did last week.
Just went through that, a real PITA. Hurricane Isaias came ashore in our town, Ocean Isle Beach NC, & the eye passed over the beach house. Island was evacuated the day before it hit. I drove down from Raleigh after the bridge was reopened all was well. Lucked out no damage to the house or dock.
About a foot of water in the street & a few inches on the pad but all the houses are built on pilings so the only thing at ground level are garages under the house.

Heck, I can't even cross the border into Illinois when I've got one of my little friend(s) with me, which is ALWAYS!
We're planning to build as soon as I sell my Mom's house.
We'll ride it out there if we think we are going to be flooded in.

You guys are killing me! Based on some of the real estate reports I've seen, it seems there are a lot of (former) Illinois residents that agree with you! (We have grandkids locally, so there is no way we're moving...)

Sitting here in Norway with a waterfront house in Florida that is anything but accessible these days, I am anxiously watching the forecasted path on nhc, but strangely, it doesn't bother me as much anymore. I guess one gets used to the yearly onslaught of storms and hurricanes. Looks like you've done all you can do to prepare, and hopefully, it won't be too bad. That 1-2 punch i don't know about though, I understand that is something new. Do they even have models for that?

Agree, Only one aunt is left in Jersey all the rest of the family is down here. Migration started in the mid 1980's when the oldest started college in Durham. Have a big spread on grandsons oldest is 24 youngest is 4 all in Raleigh. Granddaughter is 21 & she is in grad school about an hour from here.
Like Go Dad said way to many restrictions up north. Don't believe I would have bothered trying to do the COBRA up there. The NCDMV is very very friendly toward these cars from a taxation, inspection & required equipment point of view. Also the Jersey governor would not let me have my 1911 security blanket.

I'm across the river, and you're so true.
Go Dad hope you get lucky and weather out the storms fine. I know how it can be, have lived through every Mississippi River flood since 1951.
Here's you next project -- you really need one of these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5xQy8MIuec

We're good, just tired of picking stuff up every year.
Hopefully, these two storms won't be as bad as the media loves to hype them.

Yep, gotta love the media oversell on everything. If it ain't gloom an doom, it ain't a story. God help if they ever report the news instead of creating it.
Media rant over.

I'm on the Mississippi Louisiana border, Laura is going in on the Louisiana Texas border so we're good.
While the tide is still 2 feet up over here the entire Louisiana coast will be impacted as will much of Texas.
Expect fuel pricess to go up because the refineries in Lake Charles and Houton areas will likely be damaged or at least offline for a while.

Good luck guys...Hope everyone gets through another storm season (reasonably) unscathed!

The tide is finally going down after the two storms pushed the water levels up and thankfully Slidell escaped unscathed unlike the entire Western side of the state.
So far we've had two minor tropical storms and one major hurricane so if we can make it through another 30 days the Hurricane season will start to taper off.
Tomorrow I expect to be making two trips to my brothers to retrieve my lawn and shop equipment and hopefully Redbone if the weather is willing.
Redbone was supposed to have been inspected by the State Police this week, but they had far more pressing matters as we can well understand.
Thank God For Our State Troopers, Local Police, Deputies, Wildlife Officers, Firefighters & Other Front Line First Responders!
They Are Working Their Backsides Off Right Now!

We're on hold for the time being because the team that does the Special Vehicle Inspections has been temporarily assigned to do hurricane relief work for the month of September.
While I'm a bit disappointed in the delay, I'm not the fellow calling the shots and my life has not been disrupted unlike so many in Western Louisiana.
Currently, the city of Lake Charles is still mostly without power and still a total mess and will be for quite some time.
To say the least, our State Troopers are extremely busy these days on the Western side of our State.
NOTE:..Things weren't that messed up back in 2005 when Hurricane Rita came to visit the City of Lake Charles.
