Airflow into the cockpit. Yes some have made them operational with a vent flap for open/close positions. You may want to search this topic at the "other" site. Russ Thompson did it but his footbox is a little different than more recent coupes.
The trick is to deal with water coming into to scoop if it's raining. I may just leave mine blank just for show...not there yet.

Yes they can be functional!! They are used for cold air intake for the foot-boxes. Check out Russ Thompson he is one of the vendors here and has a kit for this upgrade and some really cool other stuff!! HTH tpa65cpe

I have talked with Russ, he is in the process of designing a new foot box vent for the Gen 2 coupes. The newer coupes have modified footbox aluminum that require some changes from his original vent. I would like to be able to open and close the little ones. I'm not far enough in my build to worry about it just yet.

I did make the driver side small cowel vent functional. I have a blastgate so I can open and close it. It vents down to a can with a flap so I can direct the flow and it also has a drain hose incase I get caught in the rain. :-)

Hi Russ
Some how I can't picture a can anywhere in your car...unless you went grocery shopping in the coupe.
Does it drain under the car as the water accumulates?

Russ,
Your setup sounds interesting. Did you use the same rivets that hold the scoop on to hold the can? And I know this sounds dumb but are you talking about something like a soup can? I don't want anyone asking if it was chicken noodle or cream of mushroom either. :o

Hank,
Great pictures! Where is the drain located and are the parts shown available or home made? Also was the gate, cable operated?

The blast gate and the air duct tubing are store bought. The flap and can were made from scratch and a tin box I had laying around. :-) I open and close the blast gate with a lever setup I made, I use a small clear hose attached to a threaded nipple off the can, runs down the frame to a hole drilled in the floor
