I saw in one of Lances threads that he opened up the whole nose to the radiator. I was considering this myself as those 2 spots that seem to get used as fog lamp openings need a useful purpose. Has anyone else done this with good results? I was concerned that the hood may need enlarged openings to accept the extra air now entering. Also are you guys seeing adequate cooling in street conditions?

Never had an issue in FL with overheating on a 818.

I will be opening both the nose and hood, but for aesthetic reasons, not overheating. In general, I've not heard anyone complain about overheating from lack of airflow, just air in the coolant. However, getting the hot air that goes through the radiator out through the hood before it gets to the firewall is important to keep cabin temps down if you plan on being comfortable while you drive. So if you open the nose up for any reason, I would suggest making sure you get the extra air out via ducting, larger openings, or both.

Thanks,
I have gold thermal wrap on the radiator side of the firewall more for aesthetics but should help a little. Inside I have Qpads for sound and a thermal layer over it. I’m sure it won’t be OEM conditions, but I tried.
I was picturing it shaking more with the added turbulence of air below the hood trying to lift it while it tries escaping at the windshield.

I drove my 818C a lot in the best temp test of all: the blistering Arizona desert. I never had any over-heating problems with the basic donor radiator, fans, and pump, even with AC running. I made a baffle to block the air flow between the radiator and the hood.

Brian, I agree that the space on either side of the front needs a purpose. I couldn't find a good use, and I don't need or want fog lights, so I just painted the space flat black and mounted hex mesh on 1/2" spacers so it looked like some kind of vent. I look forward to how you can make use of this space because I'm sure you can do better.
