As you know I’ve been driving my coupe a little and felt vibration around 2k RPM.
After discussion with Mark we figured out that nicer looking parts are not always the right parts. When I got my 347 I had to take the flywheel and balancer off to put it on the engine stand and paint it.
I still had the parts from my previous engine around the shop and decided they looked much better then the ones that came on the engine. Now I can hear some of you thinking how stupid can you be, clearly your not the target audience for this post!😉
I’m posting this for others that may not have this knowledge either:
Balancers and flywheels are designed to go with a certain engine. The weight imbalance of the crank is counter balanced by the weight of the flywheel and balancer to create a 0 balance and thus eliminate vibrations.
Flywheels come in different tooth configurations and weight balances. Balancers come in different weights and both can be had with or without an SFI rating. The SFI rating is a safety rating and is used for racing primarily. It indicates a higher quality/strength level.
Yeah, another lesson learned in the school of hard knocks. Car is apart, parts are on the way. Driving again by the weekend hopefully as long as the parts show up.
