Al, get the 3 link, it drives and rides better, handles better and has no wheel hop. I wish the 4 link was no longer an option, JMHO, Richard.

Al you know not to do 4 link again...
I have the 3 link on mine and its great. No bouncy ride like the 4 link was. You owe it to yourself to do it right on your second one. You might even want to go IRS this time around. No complaints on the 3 link but IRS is nice for old slow guys like us.....

The fact that FFR won't sell a complete kit with a 4 link should speak volumes.

Does the 4 link on the MK4 still wheel hop?
Nothing about a Mk 4 to keep it from dong all the bad habits like wheel hop and the infamous snap spin. How could it not?
The biggest difference on the MK 4 frame was to incorporate the 3 link into all frames to ease the upgrade for the donor dudes when they figure out the 4 link isn't the best way to go. Its cheaper to do it in the first place.

Raceral,
Don't want to step on your thread but wanted to ask if you are "stuck with the 4 link at this point" like I am or are you still in the decision making phase. If you don't mind, could discussion about some remedies be offered if you have already made the purchase and can't go to the 3 link, yet? I have never heard the 4 link downgraded so much. Is it really that bad? Thanks, WEK.

I thought that as far back at the MK3's the suspension geo. had been changed. I had coilovers on my mk1 rear , it did wheel hop but then ride was great.
Seems to me this has been fixed.
I just want to ride down the road and if I feel the need to do a burnout every once in a while I can do it. All the fancy stuff don't get me excited.

The Mk4 should not have wheel hop with a 4-link. The reason alot of Mk1 cars had wheel hop is because the frames were alot more flexible. The Mk4 frame is much stiffer which should eliminate the wheel hop. The control arms also are set up at better angles in the Mk4. The 3-link is a far superior suspension set up.

Thanks Brian, I thought somewhere I read that the rear suspension had a redesign to help eliminate wheel hop. SO, If I am thinking right, with some adjustable uppers, one should be able to get a fairly good launch.. I mean after all I got me a 1.8sec. 60ft on TA's with a stock motor. I feel I may go with the 3 link down the road on the next build, but at the same time the stock type coilover deal on the rear works just fine for my use.

The 4-Link is stronger for drag racing. The 3-link offers better handling in the turns.

Al this forum works just like the old one. The more money we can help you spend the happier we all are! Think of the jobs you can save and create by buiding another car. Do it up right Al you may not sell this one.

I thought the 4 link suspension looked good for drag racing: just didn't have enough nerve to defend it. My next project will be a slot car (3 link). Thanks, Brian.
