View Full Version : Air condition and the 5.0 Coyote, who would buy it?

We have a local Coyote customer who is installing our AC heat kit in his Coyote powered Roadster. We are finding out that there are more than a few differences. Some changes are needed to the plenum box at the dash (we would have to make a new/different box), some added fittings, different compressor etc etc etc. The kit will be substantially more expensive than the regular set up. Which is going to have to have a price increase soon.
Who would add it? This tells us if need to, or even should, make a different box or not, how many if we make any.
It will not work with anything on the passenger side of dash. NO GLOVE BOXES. Unless it just hides the vent.
Price will be in the $1,500 range or more. Our regular kit is just over $1,000.
We only sell about 10-12 AC kits a year, so this is not a make or break decision for us, just gauging interest.
We have parts for the normal small block cars and non Coyote cars. We have used the system on 4.6 cars and all forms of SBF cars.
Admin if this is inappropriate here move as needed. We looked at the vendor section and nothing new since last year so we went here.
Thanks in advance Richard.
Richard -
I have your kit easily installed in a gen 1 coyote car (no glove box as you said). Is this a gen 2 / 3 issue?

For whatever it's worth, Dave Smith said in a video about engines that roughly half of Roadster builds are using the Coyote. Maybe you saw it too. Without a Coyote offering, that would eliminate about one half the potential market. Of those how many choose A/C and how many will choose yours? Obviously I don't know. Based on your past volume. Not a lot it seems.
Back in the day when I actually had to work I was involved in a lot of sales forecasts. We had a saying. The only correct thing you can say about a forecast is that it will be wrong.

I have done two Roadsters with the Factory Five A/C. one was a Coyote, one was a small block. I put the evaporator over the passenger footbox,(tough the get at the windshield bolts, but not impossible) very doable without a lot of customization. I wouldn't spend a lot of time or money developing a kit for it.
One mans opinion since you asked. :-)

frd2 The later gens have the valve controller for the 2 to 4 valve set up on the rear of the passenger head, so yes different. Thanks for the kind words.
edwardb That is why I am asking. The problem is the difference in variations.
FFinisher I was not aware FFR made any AC for a roadster, I know for the coupe and hot rod but not the roadster as far as I knew. It is the existing kit we have sold for 15 years just a plenum change.

Well, now that you mention it, they don't really. I used the Gen III hot rod /pickup one.

Ill take the lack of response as a 'no need to make those' decision. Thanks for the input. Richard.

curious here too! I'm torn between Whitby (which may never happen) or using the FFR coupe version
$1,500 sounds about right no matter the building company

Ok, That makes two. The FFR coupe version is designed to fit in the passenger footbox of the coupe. No idea if it fits in the roadster or not. The only difference is the plenum on the firewall. It has to thinner to not hit the valve controller and have the holes changed. But we need to do more that two to make it work from a fab standpoint. Not talking anyone in or out of a system. Just letting people know what is out there. Richard.

what about with a FFMetal Firewall Forward kit? extra 1.5" of space - does that impact the design?
