After five years of wrestling, figiting, cursing, struggling and compromising I finally found the fix to the Gen 1 hood hinge problem. The solution? move the lower mounting ball for the gas shock down 1 inch. That raises the hood hinges off the grill in the open position and stops the hood from bowing due to the spring pressure.
