Has anyone ditched the trunk hinges that come with the kit and gone a different route? I am thinking of doing outer hinges like the examples here.
Would outer be easier, harder to install? Are there any problems or issues with switching to outer hinges.

If you have done this I would love to see and hear examples and trouble shooting, Thanks!132799132800132801

FWIW, I adapted compound hinges from a Mazda 6. Sorry, apparently no photos of the installed hinges made it into my build photo file. PM me if you're interested and I can reassemble and take a few shots for you (currently disassembled to allow other work in the area). Keith HR #894

I have no experience with the body yet, but I would think it would hold the panels in better alignment. You might have to support the body a little more as I think on it's own it has a tendency to sag in the middle and the added weight of the trunk lid would make it worse. I like the idea tho! And the pics are sweet - love the art deco embellishments!

I used hinges from a Nash Metropolitan. They fit like they were made for the body. I used them to avoid the factory kit hinges because I wanted a different fuel tank. The kit fuel tank is a complicated design so that it will clear internal hinges. I don't have any photos of these exterior hinges but they work great. I had a rectangular tank with fuel pickup and sender mounted on top of the tank which avoids the leak and fill problems associated with the kit tank. It's much superior to the kit fuel tank. I've had my car on the road for a couple of years and I don't pay too much attention to the Forum anymore.
