Have plans to start another build in the near future but won’t be doing so for a number of months. Reason being is we have sold our house and are looking for where we will move to. Right now we are planning to go out to NM and look around before making any final decisions. Year round nice weather would be with little to no snow is the minimum so we’ll see where we end up. I do know we need at least a double car garage for the build to happen!
Current plan for build:
347 or 363 sbf Dart block
EFI
TKO600
Wilwoods
Power steering
15” wheels (love the old fat tire look)
3 Link as I not sure the IRS is worth it to me (notice I say to me, does not mean it’s not a nice luxury)
Colour....well loved Viking Blue with Wimbledon stripes but have seen a number of others I will consider
I have thought a fair amount about a Coyote as I know many really like it however I have a hard time looking under the hood without seeing a pushrod engine there. I do like a Coyote for being less smelly and not quite as loud at idle as my wife was not a fan of either but these things are kind of what I always thought about a replica cobra is like. I’ll have to see if my mind can get around it.
I may also consider buying one already built if it’s to my tastes just because the build process and waiting a painted roadster takes time.

My Coyote was smelly and loud before I had it tuned and you can fix the looks by not opening the hood. Problem solved;)

What he said. I’ve had smelly and poor running Coyotes and have also had clean running Windsor’s so don’t think that either is mutually exclusive. As for sound...DO NOT use J pipes on a Coyote and the level at idle is pretty reasonable, even more so with the longer mufflers in GasN pipes.

I’m with Papa & GoDadGo...there’s nothing I like better than a build thread and I CAN’T WAIT to see what you come up with!

Ok let's talk about that new house. You need a 3 car garage. I have added on to a 2 car garage twice now. It makes SO MUCH DIFFERENCE. We built our last house 1-2 yrs ago. I am retired and my wife has one more week til she retires. My wife wanted a sewing room. I wanted a 3 car garage. I got a 28-32 wide out of the deal and it is just fantastic. I didn't even go for another door.

That little window is centered on my toolbox/bench. We usually just have two cars in it. She parks next to the house and I pull in and angle to the right. In a pinch I could get three cars in there by backing one way over to the right. Let it be known now that this is a requirement. I bet your wife says, OK but here is my wish list. And that is OK.

I hear you Craig. Right now we have two double garages, one attached and one not. Our intent is to reduce and minimize as neither I or my wife want/need a big place. We do however like having a “shop” or large garage for our hobbies. It’s a challenge to find a smaller house with a large garage though and yes, we may have to build/add a garage once we find the right place. That however pushes back my timeline for a build though so ideally we need to find a place that has what we need.

345 or 363 sbf Dart block
3 Link as I not sure the IRS is worth it to me (notice I say to me, does not mean it’s not a nice luxury)
How about a High Revving 347 Dart using the 4.125 bore with a 3.25 stroke?
It would create an engine that would spin up like the old Mopar 340 which has a 4.040 bore with a 3.31 stroke.
Rod angles would be improved and the valves would be totally unshrouded.
It would be one heck of a combination!
Regarding the 3-Link over the IRS because of the simplicity of the setup and reduced cost.
I'm a huge fan of the 3-Link because it really plants the tires and you can alter the wheelbase if desired.
I like the fact that I can pull the driveshaft from inside the car if necessary.
Just remember that transmission yoke penetration depth is impacted.

Not installing IRS is foolish IMO. The cost difference is a false concern compared to the overall cost of the build, it isn't a 'luxury' if you drive a lot. I have the old style IRS, and I can't imagine how it could do a better job of planting the tires??? Throw it into a corner, roll on the throttle hard, and you think you're driving a slot car. Would never never build another without it.

Seems as if there should be a market for town houses with five car garages.

Steve, yup you have that about right. I did not realize I mistyped 345 instead of 347. I do think a 347 is great combo for these cars although the 363 is just one of those that sound so nice.
Rich, I drove a 3 link and liked it. I was very comfortable and while the IRS is nice, it’s not a must for me. I do agree about the money aspect though so as another $2-3k will not break the bank but one can argue that for an engine too. Why stop at a 302 or 347, why not go for 427 sbf?

Kyle,
There are two ways to get to a 347 with a short deck Dart Ford style block.
4.030 Bore X 3.40 Stroke = 346.95 Cubes
4.125 Bore X 3.25 Stroke = 347.47 Cubes
The version I referred to has the shorter stroke with the bigger bore.

If you do go with 3 link, I would suggest getting the Breeze lower control arms. Big difference in handling.

Or the Spohn Performance pieces are a good option too.

They did two sets of custom lowers for me.

I've wondered if anybody has used Johnny Joints. I was thinking of calling a company to see if they'd make custom control arms for me with Johnny Joints, but now it looks like I don't have to. Somebody already builds them! Thanks for the link!

If Carroll was still alive & kickin' and building these things, would there be a pushrod engine in there?? NOPE - he'd still be stuffing the biggest & baddest under the hood!

If you are correct Mr. Fixit, then Mr. Shelby is surely spinning in his grave.

Man, it's a shame that his company has lost it's and still using a custom cast, all-aluminum, 427 FE Side oiler that still sports pushrods.

Kyle - maybe contact Dale Thomas in Prescott, AZ. He has a Mark IV with a Coyote engine that he was trying to sell a while ago, and he just recently won the Cobra from the London Cobra Show. I can give you his email address if you want.
