View Full Version : Are exhaust pipes side specific?

I'm trying to finish up my e-brake install and have hit a snag, the bracket that retains the cables will not fit as the right side muffler is too far inboard. I've been communicating with FFR and they are saying that I possibly have the pipes installed on the wrong sides? I'm not sure I agree as the inventory sheets list quantity 2 of each part number for each pipe, if they were side specific I would expect different P/N's.
I really don't see much opportunity for adjustment as the pipe the muffler attaches to is bolted via a 4 bolt flange at the other end.
Anyone else have an issue like this?

I ran into the same situation, solved by rotating pipe that connects to the header, still a close fit but isn't everything. I installed e brake before attempting exhaust

I had the same problem. I checked the parts and both sides seemed identical. I did flip the mufflers over so the outflow is toward the outside of the frame, otherwise the tailpipes wouldn't go through the frame. Below are some pictures of the e-brake bracket. I used a grinder and cutout some of the bracket so there was enough room for it to sit next to the muffler. Let me know if you need more pictures.

My first problem with the exhaust was that the transition pieces were bent too tight and ran into the bottom of the floor. I have a SBC and 700R4. The problem was that the end of the transmission should be an inch lower. But if you do that, the driveshaft is too close to the cross member at the back of the cab frame. So I took the truck to local muffler shop that specializes in SS exhaust. They rebent the transition pieces to fit. I had them install the rest of the system and had to modify the passenger side due to e-brake. So that saved me a trip back.

I too had the problem on the right side where the down pipe was hitting the floor, I had FFR send me their revised down pipes to solve that issue. As for the right side muffler being too close to the center of the chassis to allow the e-brake cable bracket to fit, I ended up swapping the pipes between the down pipes and the mufflers. They were just a little bit different (even though they are the same part number) and that at least allowed that bracket to pick up the bolt that holds the e-brake lever, I still had to rotate the bracket a little towards the center of the chassis and drill a new hole through the bracket as the rear most hole was probably not going to hit the frame rail.132765132766
