Hello.

While my body is off my Mk1 and I do other upgrades and changes, I want to replace my original Y type Simpson harness.
While I've spent tens of thousands of dollars on this car, I'm having trouble spending $500 dollars on Simpson harnesses while $250 will sit unused in the passenger seat.

Also, I am debating whether to change from the Y type to the 5 point. I currently use the sub belt.
It will be an extra expense to weld new tabs for the mounts behind the seats.
I don't track the car and likely couldn't with the Y style, but I don't know.

I was looking at these two offerings from Racerdirect.net
Thoughts on this brand and the Y style?
If I go with Simpson, I need to custom order what I want because what I want isn't available.
Also, I like the Hans type because of the 2" width near the neck.

These are about $110 each

Mark, Id say go with a 5 point and attach to a roll bar cross bar- as long as its 10* below your shoulders.

Mark, I’ve been thinking about replacing my 18 year old Simpson Y belts, too, and also adding an anti sub belt like I think you did. Been stymied by need to change/add panel slots for shoulder belts and having to cut holes in seats for proper placement of anti sub belt. Thought about running both shoulder belts through same slot and attaching to same mount in trunk. Not clear to me why they need to be separated for non track use. How did you mount your anti sub belt?
In your top picture it looks like you are going to need another belt to get all the way down to the trunk mount.

Hi Phil! Yes, Henry Renaud added sub belts and I can post pictures of where/how it mounts tomorrow when I go to work on it. I am going to bring my seats to an upholsterer for other things, but also want him to make the access hole in the seats for the sub belts. I've seen the "correct" style Y type belts still available. Since my car is torn up as you've seen, cutting the holes is no big deal but welding new tabs will take a little time.
Looks like you are correct about the top picture.
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get these: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cws-11104db

If you want to replace your Y style and upgrade to a cam lock, get these. Bolt right in, or should.

BTW, I ordered the rack and pinion you suggested from RA. I never heard back from Mark. Should have it soon. Thanks again for the pointer!
