Do I have the wrong driveshaft flange or the wrong rearend?

8.8" came out of a 2009 Mustang GT.

I've seen the 6 bolt flanges. Not sure why mine is different or if I even need to use an adapter at all.

FWIW, I've only used an adapter like that for the 2015+ Mustang IRS center sections. The 8.8 solid axles I've done didn't use an adapter. The driveshaft flange yoke bolted directly to the pinion flange.

The flange on your rear end looks just like the one specified in the manual, but googling the 5R3Z-4851-A flange - that one looks like 6 bolts instead of 8 so I see your concern. I have not sourced a rear end yet but I can look through my parts to see if they sent me the same adapter flange. This stuff is not supposed to be this difficult. Oh well, hopefully someone else can chime in with what we need.

I read Edward’s post again. So is the adapter not needed as the driveshaft will bold directly to input flange?

As best I can find on the internet that is a V6 driveshaft flange.
I believe your S197 Mustang 8.8 was swapped into a V6 car at some point in its life. It is for certain an 8.8? The 7.5’s look similar...

A link to one web discussion I found.

It is definitely an 8.8" I will see if the driveshaft will bolt to this flange tonight.

Thanks!!!

I did the same rear end for my 35 build and the adapter FFR sent with the kit fit their drive shaft perfectly.

I have the same flange on the 8.8 I picked up. Mine is from a 2014 V6 mustang. I plan to swap it out and run a traditional yolk with a u-joint and have my drive shaft modified. I'm using a donor car but it had the 4 link rear so I had to sell that and buy the 3 link version. Not a big fan of adapters.
