Just a heads up to builders out there.. I called Alex to get the vinyl spec as I'm looking to match door panels and he informed that he's not going to be offering his glove box kit anymore.

9/24/20: Updated the post title as this was meant to be informative and based on recent comments looks like Alex is back making the boxes.

Dang it. Was literally filling out the order sheet TODAY after seeing one of his boxes and matching dash vinyl on Wednesday night...

Anyone think about 3D printing the box?

I have a 3D resin type printer, but it's not large enough for a glovebox. But it does have my mind thinking. I wonder if there's a file already built for it?

I would use carbon fiber filliement. Given this would never be exposed to light, it would be fine. I believe these would be a good seller for someone.

I have a printer that's big enough but haven't tracked down a file.

anyone know if he is still doing the wheel well liners?

I'm beginning to worry.

My son bought me a set of wheel well liners back in November/December 2019 for Christmas. Alex later told my son, in January 2020, that the shipping changers had gone up. My son sent him more money.

I spoke with Alex in about April, 2020 and he told me Oregon was totally shut down and he could not get any materials for manufacturing.

I have not received any communications from him at all. I tried to call today and left a message.

His web site is still up without any notice of delay in manufacturing or delay in shipping due to the virus.

Like I say, I am beginning to worry. Those wheel well liners look like a very good product but...........

I didn’t mean to cause a panic. He answered and spoke with me 2 weeks ago when I was inquiring about the vinyl he uses as I bought his box late last year. Seems like a good guy and I’m sure you’ll be fine. He only told me about the box as his supplier of the box left town.

I had a good conversation with Alex several weeks ago. He actually returned my call.

The short story:

Virus hit and the shop he shared went away along with some of his tooling and materials and his phone #. He got some stuff back later and after working with the phone co. he got his number back. He is working on redoing the glove box as he lost some tooling. He is finishing up four Wheel Well Liner sets, one of which I received today. A Christmas present from my kids.

The cost to ship USPS from Oregon to North Carolina was $92 plus the cost of packaging. I told him I would cover the extra shipping costs from what my kids paid back in December.

So, good to see him following through with his back orders. My best to him as he struggles through these tough times.

I also received a set of Alex’s wheel well liners last week. He did keep me posted on his progress on re-opening his shop. Consistent with past comments the quality is excellent and the fit in my early 2018 MK4 is very good. So far I’ve completed installing both rears and the left front. Other than creating openings for my fresh air vent hose I haven’t had to do any trimming.

He was telling me the same thing about the glove box when I ordered mine over 2 years ago. Seems he has been on the fence about that product for a long time. Fabricating a glove box from aluminum plate and sheet metal should not be too difficult, many have done it before. It would be nice if there was a template out there somewhere for the size and shape of the door. From that, you can shape the box. EdwardB has a nice writeup in his 20th Anniv MK4 build thread.

I am actually looking to add a glovebox to my MK3.1. Was wondering if the glovebox that comes with the new MK4 kits would work and if I could order just the box from FFR.
Any thoughts on this or another option that some folks have had some success with?
